| | City & Colour Sometimes CD City & Colour Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
Released in Canada in 2005, SOMETIMES scored a Juno Award in 2007 for Alternative Album of the Year. Its appealing, whispery acoustic ballads bear scant relation to the scream-heavy post-hardcore played by Alexisonfire, City & Colour leader Dallas Green's other band. This is no sudden caprice, though; Green has been playing the soft stuff since his early teens. There's the expected heartbreak and wistfulness here, but also songwriting sophistication and true feeling (minus the vocal onanism of a Dashboard Confessional).
Main songwriter in Alexisonfire, Dallas Green, demonstrates his wide talent by producing an ear catching debut solo album. Solid Album This is an amazing album. What a fantastic first release.
The lyrics are simple and accessible, yet totally effective. His voice is haunting, and touching. Definitely an album that will stand the test of time, as the themes are timeless. A fine record. Submitted by KAB (Ontario) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Sometimes album
$6.75 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s bassline is hypnotizing). For lovers, "Invitation to Love" and "Knock, Knock" are ...
| | Dream Theater Train Of Thought CD (2003)
Sometimes CD music
$11.05 TRAIN OF THOUGHT continues the legacy of the progressive metal legends, with all the requisite superhuman metallic musicianship that their fans have come to expect. This outing continues in the heavier mode that began with 2002's SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE, reaching even further into darker, personal lyrical themes.
Guitars are the dominant expressive voice here, with keyboards scaled considerably back from the signature Dream Theater sound. Band members Mike Portnoy (drums) and John Petrucci (guitar) continue their do-it-yourself production approach, opting for recording venues on their native Long Island (much of the band's album work has taken place in upstate New York at Bear Tracks and Little Bear Studios). "As I Am" and "This Dying Soul" at times borrow generously from Metallica, featuring that band's well-known use of tri-tones, and vocalist James LaBrie even tries his hat at some Hetfield-isms. Possibly due to Petrucci's tenure on the G3 Tour (with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai), TRAIN finds him returning to Dream Theater wielding an even more lethal guitar soloing style. Of all the new tracks, the instrumental "Stream of Consciousness" sounds in closest proximity to the band's earlier ...
| | Thin Lizzy - Greatest Hits DVD (2006)
Sometimes music CDs
$10.55 The career of Thin Lizzy produced a few bona fide classics, including "Whiskey in the Jar" and "The Boys Are Back In Town." This compilation of music videos may have dated somewhat--most of them are culled from a time when the format was just starting to establish itself--but the chance to see Phil Lynott and the ...

| | Iron Maiden - Death On The Road DVDs (2003)
Sometimes album
$18.59 Iron Maiden's live album DEATH ON THE ROAD captured the heavy-metal legends at a stop on their 2003 tour, which promoted both that year's DANCE OF DEATH and the best-of collection EDWARD THE GREAT. Recorded at the Westfalenhalle Arena in Dortmund, Germany, this concert film presents DEATH ON THE ROAD in visual form, with Maiden tearing through newer fare from DANCE OF DEATH as well as older classics like "Can I Play with Madness" and "The Trooper" for a potent showcase of singer Bruce Dickinson's soaring vocals and the band's trademark three-guitar assault.
This 3 DVD package is the ...
| | U2 - Popmart: Live From Mexico City DVD (1998) DTS Sound
Sometimes CD music
$10.55 Since becoming wildly popular in the 1980s, Irish band U2's sound has grown from a raw, soulful rock to a more electronica-tinged, experimental brand of pop. In line with this, U2's stage act has grown into a showcase of lavish special effects, cutting-edge sound, and spectacular multimedia enhancement. POPMART features Bono ...
| | Tragically Hip Music @ Work CD (2000)
Sometimes music CDs
$9.69 Since 1983, The Tragically Hip have been popular in their native Canada, but something of a cult favorite in the USA. MUSIC @ WORK, where the band combine their rootsy-heartland rock (think Tom Petty, Black Crowes, Widespread Panic) with dryly quirky and humorous alternative rock (think Wall of Voodoo, They Might Be Giants, Cake) has little of the blues flavoring present on The Tragically Hip's earlier albums.
The overall sound here is sophisticated and atmospheric but doesn't forsake punch. Gordon Downie's hearty, distinctive, slightly wobbly voice conveys genuine soulfulness and ...

DICK'S PICKS VOLUME TWENTY-FOUR is the 24th in a series of archival live Grateful Dead CDs that were overseen by the late Dick Latvala. | | Daniel Parker Mend CD (2005)
Sometimes music CDs
$16.45 The sonic diversity of the tracks on Mend was created through experimentation with the techniques of apartment rock and a minimalist approach to equipment. Two microphones were used for the whole of the recordings. One keyboard and a variety of acoustic instruments and percussion fill out the sound. More importantly, the melody and hooks combine with the often oddball orchestration to somehow create a cohesive pop album.Daniel Parker, 'DP' as he's sometimes known, spins acoustic guitar based pop songs into richly layered recordings with the songwriter/producer contributing the majority of the instrumentation and vocals and a supporting cast of friends and local musicians chipping in on percussion and vocals. Over the past decade, the music of Daniel Parker has seen incarnations from Portland, OR to Portland, Maine with recording sessions in New York, demo sessions in Florida, and club dates in Manhattan, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, Madison, L.A., and Boise. These days there are occasional engagements at clubs and along the cafe circuit in Portland, Oregon with brothers Dennis and Mark Hitchcox and their ...
