Great Music Great CD byy two of the best at the end of long careera. Submitted by alvin14 (Coral Gables,Fl. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Definition of "in the pocket"! Count Basie always had one of the swingingest bands around. And he knew how to highlight a vocalist by making room instrumentally, kicking the ends of phrases, etc. His work with Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Rushing, and the great Joe Williams is plenty proof of that.
On this recording we hear some exceptional power and swinging precision by the band. Basie is typically understated on piano. The rhythm section is so far behind the beat it staggers the mind at times to think they can stay together. But that was their art. . . and there were few better.
The Mills Brothers sound as sweet as honey, matching the mellow sounds of the reed section and bones. Their sustain power on long notes is truly a joy to experience. Tight harmonies and the ability to swing make this outing a perfect fit.
Highlights: April In Paris, Lazy River, I May Be Wrong But I Think You're Wonderful, and a barnstorming bravura performance of "Every Day" (I Have The Blues)!
If you like vocal harmonies, sweet melodies, and big band power -- pick this up -- and enjoy! Submitted by cnaffier (Fort Collins, Colorado, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$20.39 Through his playing on this and other albums, Danny Moss acknowledges his major influences and honors them. The artists for whom he keeps the flame, stays the course, and carries the torch lit by are Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, the underappreciated Bud Freeman, and, to a lesser extent, Budd Johnson. He avoids John Coltrane sheets of sound and the free jazz of Archie Shepp, like honkers and squeakers. As long as there are talented tenor sax players like Moss, Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, and Spike Robinson who have access to jazz venues and stable recording companies, the great tenor men will not easily be relegated to the trash heap of the forgotten.
Moss was born in England 1927, about the time that Coleman Hawkins was starting his tenure with Fletcher Henderson where he started to redefine the tenor saxophone. With the opening strains of the album's kick off tune, "Three Little Words," you sense Hawkins' ...

Yes this was the song where he said: I am a stepping razor don't you watch my size I am dangerous I am only 5'8 but my gun is big like Jennifer Lopez's butt Colin Powell is nothing but a republican smut He went from a strong Black man to George Bush's little slut The war instrumental by DJ Smooth is also there: So go get some tunes now and help drive these hot reggae songs up the chart: Then there is the anti R. Kelly, anti child molesters track called 'Legal couchie' by Exile where he comments:I want some legal couchie to get a legal nutI don't need underage girls so the feds could lock me upI want a girl who is legalGive me Janet Jackson, burn Steven SegalVineyard is also hitting hard with the weed man's anthem 'Higher Grade Marijuana'. Hotter, hotter, higher grade of marijuana, legalize the herb so we can ship it from Jamaica. If you love an occasional puff of the good Jamaican weed then you will definitely love this song: We sell weed to eat, like rice and wheatAnd we smoke weed to sleepAnd we stay high seven days of the weekThe weed got me krunk on the beatFor all the hot ladies who don't go to the club unless they are dressed in the latest gear then "Pradda and Gucci" by Viper is the track for you.
