$7.59 1983's SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) is actually Eurythmics' second album, but 1981's Krautrock-influenced IN THE GARDEN was never released in the US and made minimal waves in the rest of the world. Thanks to two striking videos and some canny self-promotion on the part of androgynous singer Annie Lennox, this was certainly not the case with this much-improved follow-up.
The hypnotic drone of the title track and the ticking, pressurized "Love Is A Stranger," were enormous radio and video hits around the world, ...

$7.79 Ironically titled, considering it was the last Eurythmics album for a decade, 1989's WE TOO ARE ONE is a solid farewell from Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. Rebounding from 1988's somewhat disappointing SAVAGE, the album is a well-produced collection of strong, diverse songs.
Perhaps too diverse; the contrasting musical paths the pair followed after their breakup can be clearly seen here in retrospect. The stomping "We Two Are One" and the Motownish "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry," prefigure the more R&B-influenced direction of Dave Stewart's Spiritual Cowboys; while the delicate but substantial art-pop of "When the Day Goes Down" and the lyrically blunt "You Hurt Me and I Hate You" (one of two tracks Lennox wrote without Stewart), foreshadow Lennox's solo albums.
Switching to Arista Records in the U.S., Eurythmics made their last album together with We Too Are One, and they went out ...

$7.69 Annie Lennox, the visual chameleon puts another face on; this time she is a blonde Barbie. Under the covers she is very much the familiar voice that became one of the most listened to throughout the 80s. This came towards the end, and as such is not the usual greatest hits package that many of their regular albums sounded like. Stewart was beginning to experiment with electronic sound (again) as Lennox seemed to want to sing more. In "I Need A Man," Annie sings of the type of man she does not want. In "Shame" she mourns nostalgia, while in "Savage" there is sadness, bitterness and anger. This sounds like it was a difficult album to make.
Although Revenge, Eurythmics' fifth album, failed to generate a substantial hit single and sold poorly in the U.S. compared to previous efforts ("I Need a Man" and "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart" both charted, however), the album hit the Top Ten and spun off four chart singles in the more faithful U.K. Musically, Eurythmics, ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Boxed
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's "Rocky Raccoon." What Second Chapter immediately sets forth is the importance of Kirwan as a pop artist, and how, despite Fleetwood Mac's success after he left, his sounds could still have been beneficial to that supergroup. "Hot Summers Day" is a fine example of that, a beautiful song that could offset Buckingham's gritty ramblings. It would have made a nice ...

$6.49 Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (1999, MCA Music Media Studios).
In the early and mid-'70s, the years between the live FOUR-WAY STREET and 1977's CSN, there were plenty of albums which were supposedly begun as Crosby Stills Nash and Young projects but collapsed. The Stills and Young Band's LONG MAY YOU RUN is a legendary example, as is 1975's David Crosby and Graham Nash album WIND ON THE WATER, the record the duo made after the early sessions that eventually became LONG MAY YOU RUN fell apart.
Listening to this album, it's easy to hear how different these songs would have sounded with Stills and ...
