George Strait 50 Number Ones CDs (2004) Top Seller
Duets/Duets II 90th Birthday Limited Collector's Edition CD music From the early 1980s onward, there's been no greater champion of traditional country-music values in the mainstream (and none more successful) than George Strait. Like a virtual Ramones of country, he's remained unshakeable in his devotion to a straightforward, no-frills aesthetic of which he's become the unquestioned standard-bearer. This populist stance has accordingly resounded with huge numbers of listeners; if you thought it was impressive when Alabama released a hits collection containing 40 Number One country hits, try Strait's 50 NUMBER ONES on for size.
In keeping with Strait's singular approach, the passage of time is difficult to notice here. From the wistful 1982 lost-love tale "Fool Hearted Memory" to the one new song, 2004's "I Hate Everything," Strait's amiable mix of honky-tonk, Western Swing, and bar-room ballads is remarkably consistent, providing the perfect framework for each sentiment just as comfortably as his warm, inviting voice serves the songs. Unlike many artists' best-of collections, there's no chronological peak beyond which the hits stop coming; 50 NUMBER ONES contains just as many latter-day smashes as early chart-toppers, a testament to the remarkable staying power and clarity of vision that make George Strait a star.

Lionel Richie Definitive Collection CD (2003) Top Seller
Duets/Duets II 90th Birthday Limited Collector's Edition buy CD music The first pressings of THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION included a bonus disc featuring rare tracks.
Although Lionel Richie was AWOL for most of the '90s, he's still a pop culture force to be reckoned with, and THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION ably supports this assertion. Between his work as a frontman for The Commodores, songwriter for other artists, and as a solo act, Richie became the only songwriter to score nine chart-toppers in nine consecutive years. Aside from Kenny Rogers' "Lady" and USA For Africa's "We Are The World," (co-written with Michael Jackson), all the other #1's are here: "Endless Love" (with Diana Ross), "Truly," "Hello," "All Night Long (All Night)," "Say You, Say Me," "Still" and "Three Times A Lady." That's not even counting the man's other Top 10 hits including further Commodores manna like "Easy" (later a hit remake for Faith No More). Throw in solo sides like the infectious "Dancing On the Ceiling" and the urgent "Running With The Night" and its easy to hear how Richie nonchalantly dominating the charts throughout the '80s. He brings things up-to-date with two new songs: the slow rolling Enrique Iglesias duet "To Love a Woman" and the piano ballad "Goodbye."

Duets/Duets II 90th Birthday Limited Collector's Edition songs "The Chairman of the Board" died in May of 1998, yet his music sounds as vital and relevant today as ever. Released on the 10th anniversary of his death--in coordination with a slew of DVD releases commemorating the singer's acting career as well as an official U.S. Postal Service stamp--NOTHING BUT THE BEST provides an excellent look at Sinatra's tenure at the Reprise label. Electric Light Orchestra All over the World: The Very Best Of CD (2005) Top Seller
Duets/Duets II 90th Birthday Limited Collector's Edition CD music Although there's no shortage of Electric Light Orchestra collections on the market, 2005's ALL OVER THE WORLD finds the middle ground between 1995's extensive two-disc STRANGE MAGIC set and 2003's THE ESSENTIAL ELO. Except for the baffling omission of "Can't Get It Out of My Head," the majority of the British band's majestic 1970s pop hits are here. This disc's real service, however, is its inclusion of lesser-known selections, including "The Diary of Horace Wimp" (from 1979's DISCOVERY)--which is, along with the epic "Mr. Blue Sky," one of the group's finest Beatlesque tunes--and the soaring title song (from the XANADU soundtrack).
Throughout the compilation, bandleader Jeff Lynne's brilliantly layered production and keen sense of popcraft are more than evident, particularly on the deft, unbelievably catchy disco/rock hybrids "Evil Woman," "Turn to Stone," and "Shine a Little Love." The non-chronological order and lack of individual song dates here can be frustrating, but ALL OVER THE WORLD attempts to make up for this by featuring liner notes by Lynne himself. In most respects, this 20-track collection trumps THE ESSENTIAL ELO, making it an excellent starting point for newcomers to the glorious pop sounds of Electric Light Orchestra.
Photographers: Michael Putland; Ian Dickson; Gary Merrin; Fin Costello.
Electric Light Orchestra: Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar); Bev Bevan.
Liner Note Author: Jeff Lynne.

Barbra Streisand Duets CD (2002)
Duets/Duets II 90th Birthday Limited Collector's Edition buy CD music DUETS is a compilation of duets and contains a new duet recording with Barry Manilow, "I Won't Be The One Let Go".
Barbra Streisand's long and varied career is the stuff of legend, as the actress/director/songstress consistently takes chances, never content to rest on her laurels. DUETS, a collection of her collaborations, reflects this wide-sweeping talent, amassing tracks from every facet of Streisand's career. DUETS includes partnerships with stars of pop, country, soul, disco, rock, songwriters of a bygone era, and stars of Broadway and opera. It boasts a track from probably the most famous record to bear the same title (Frank Sinatra's DUETS), a live duet with Dorothy herself culled from a 1963 episode of the Judy Garland Show, and the underappreciated mellow-cool "Guilty" with Bee Gee Barry Gibb.
Number One hits with Neil Diamond and Donna Summer sit alongside less remembered alliances with Celine Dion and Kim Carnes. There's even a track on which Barbra doubles up with herself. Most importantly to fans and collectors alike, DUETS features two new tracks, a fetching, modern Disney-esque torch song with Barry Manilow ("I Won't Be The One To Let Go") and a pitch perfect pairing with rising opera-pop star Josh Groban (the inspirational "All I Know Of Love").
Recorded between 1966 & 2002.
19 Classic Duets Including 4 New Recordings
