Mary J. Blige Breakthrough CD (2005)
Baby Makin' Music buy CD music The album's lead-off single, "Be Without You," a bittersweet slow jam, is representative of the album's themes, which focus on feelings of strength and weakness in love. But whether waxing romantic ("Can't Get Enough") or detailing the travails of the heart ("Baggage"), Blige lays down elastic R&B vocal lines that are second to none. Even a seemingly unlikely duet with Bono and U2 on "One" comes across beautifully, adding a new dimension to that familiar tune.
After her somewhat lukewarm 2003 release LOVE & LIFE, Mary J. Blige returns to her rightful place as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul with 2005's THE BREAKTHROUGH. Blige enlisted a host of guest producers to contribute tracks to THE BREAKTHROUGH, and the result is one of her strongest and most varied albums. As usual, the sound is a mixture of smooth, urban contemporary and hip-hop edge, but Blige nails it with tracks like the pulsing "Enough Cryin'" (with its rich, multi-layered vocals) and the breezy "Can't Hide From Luv" featuring a guest spot by Jay-Z.
Personnel: Mary J. Blige (vocals); Dave Young, will.i.am, Brook (vocals); Jay-Z (rap vocals); Bryan-Michael Cox ...

Charlie Wilson Charlie, Last Name Wilson CD (2005) Top Seller
Baby Makin' Music CD music When former Gap Band vocalist Charlie Wilson appeared on Snoop Dogg's "Signs" with Justin Timberlake, the 2004 track gave the Oklahoma native the widest exposure since his funk group's late-1970s/early-'80s glory days. In 2005, Wilson followed up on this momentum with the solo disc CHARLIE, LAST NAME WILSON, a potent dose of contemporary R&B that features production work by R. Kelly. Though much of the album is straight-up R&B/soul, it does stop in hip-hop territory, most notably on the steamy "So Hot" and the defiant "You Got Nerve" (with a guest shot by Snoop). Two other highlights reveal the smooth-voiced Wilson's range--"No Words" is a romantic ballad that will have listeners swooning, while "Floatin'" (performed with Timberlake and the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am) revisits party-ready Gap Band-like funk. With its mix of old-school talent and 21st-century sounds, CHARLIE, LAST NAME WILSON is sure to appeal to a deservedly wide audience.

Anthony Hamilton Ain't Nobody Worryin' CD (2005) Top Seller
Baby Makin' Music songs After the success of his 2003 album, COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM, R&B/soul singer Anthony Hamilton followed up in earnest during 2005, first with a collection of previously unreleased tunes, SOULIFE, and then with another new studio record, AIN'T NOBODY WORRYIN'. This latter disc truly solidifies Hamilton's sterling reputation; it's an utterly confident outing that nods to 1970s soul music without being beholden to the style of that era. In fact, Hamilton's deft balancing of both vintage soul and contemporary production is what helps the expressive vocalist stand out in the crowd. Rather than calling up his R&B/rap peers for guest shots, Hamilton largely goes in alone on this solid record, allowing superstar producer Mark Batson and others to create organic backdrops that perfectly showcase his undeniable talent.

Avant Director CD (2006)
Baby Makin' Music album for sale R&B crooner Avant is as smooth as ever on DIRECTOR, but this time around his emotive, passionate vocal stylings are supported by cutting-edge production that's sharper than ever. While Avant is not averse to getting down and dirty when the situation arises, he's a romantic at heart, and many of the tunes here find him exulting in the glow of love with a rhapsodic zeal that's uncommon among many of his contemporaries. Alternately declaring himself a "Grown Ass Man" and a "Director" of carnal activities, Avant pulls off a marriage of slow-jam heavy breathing and visceral, up-front beats that makes DIRECTOR satisfying on both sonic and sensual levels.

Body Kiss CD (2003) Top Seller
Baby Makin' Music CD music BODY KISS was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. "Busted" was nominated for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
Looking to recapture the same success generated by the 2001 album ETERNAL, The Isley Brothers re-team with and hand off the majority of production duties to R. Kelly for 2003's BODY KISS. Although the group's name indicates a sibling venture with Ronald and Ernie Isley, guitarist Ernie's involvement is minimal. His only appearance is a signature guitar solo on the simmering slow jam "Take a Ride." Otherwise, Ronald, (who resurrects his fictional, video-spawned alter ego Mr. Biggs), ends up being the sole full-time face of the group. Kelly also adopts the "Pied Piper" alter ego, and ends up alongside Snoop Dogg in the mack daddy anthem "I Like," as well as resurrecting an Isleys trademark--the two-part song. This time out it's "What Would You Do?, Parts 1 & 2," the first part a pleading offer for romance, and the second a more rap-flavored remix. Along with Lil' Kim's cameo on the sensual title cut, recent fans who've been following the Isleys/Kelly thread will get the biggest kick out of "Showdown Vol.1," a sequel to "Showdown," originally featured on Kelly's CHOCOLATE FACTORY.

Jaheim Ghetto Classics CD (2006) Top Seller
Baby Makin' Music buy CD music GHETTO CLASSICS is Jaheim's third effort, an album heavily rooted in traditional R&B, and also one of his strongest. Don't be misled by the "traditional" tag, however. Like most contemporary R&B, Jaheim's music is deeply influenced by hip-hop, and the layered, top-tier production from KayGee (of Naughty by Nature) gives this album a smart, sophisticated sheen that is undeniably 2006. The appearance of rapper Jadakiss on the single "Everytime I Think About Her" further updates the sound.
But the ghost of Marvin Gaye is certainly milling about GHETTO CLASSICS in the form of the smooth, sensual vibe, the album's themes (love songs about commitment, devotion, and family), and in Jaheim's expressive, well-controlled romantic croon. In short, Jaheim mixes the traditional with the contemporary in perfect measure, making his solid third release a sure bet for fans of old- and new-school soul.
