Paul Anka - Rock Swings: Live At The Montreal Jazz Movie Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) Show biz lives The man is a very good entertainer. Unlike some "older" singers he still has dynamics in his voice & he sings in tune. Many of the tunes on "Rock swings" in their original form are not familiar to me (as I am of the same vintage) but the arrangements & Paul's singing makes them valid despite this. This is a must! This dvd is excellent! Paul is in superb voice, and the orchestra that supports him is world-class. The song "I'm Not Anyone" is worth the price alone;it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, in my opinion! Paul is the consummate performer, and is one of a handful of entgertainers that has enjoyed a successful career that has spanned all his life, now into 6 decades. You'll see, and hear why, when you own this important performance. Submitted by mrgarygordon (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Remember Bill Murry's Lounge Singer Bit on SNL
I remember Paul Anka's early hits,
and they were all good at that time.
This concert attempt to rearrange
Rock and Roll hits into Big Band Swing
arrangements was a big mistake. Paul
Anka comes across reminding me only
of Bill Murry's bit as the cornball
lounge singer on Saturday Night Live.
The majority of the songs bear little
resemblance to the originals. You may
sometimes not even be able to recognize
them. Especially bad were It's My Life,
I believe Bon Jovi recorded that one.
Eye Of The Tiger originally recorded by
Survivor, a driving beat meant to go
along with the spirit of the song, the
will to win, was nowhere to be found.
Lionel Ritchie's Hello a mournful
tune about unrequited love, really
should have been left alone. Actually
this whole concept of Rock Swings
should have been left alone.
Paul should really just stick to
writing great songs.

$9.09 JUST CHILLIN' won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album.
Break out the white wine and slip into something more comfortable, 'cause Norman Brown is JUST CHILLIN'. For his second Warner Brothers album, this guitar-playing Angeleno leads the way through 10 songs of lightly nuanced jazz with just enough R&B overtones to qualify for Quiet Storm status. Working his way through mostly self-penned instrumentals, Brown offers crisp phrasing and warm-toned bounce, from the infectious, bossa-nova flavored "Dancing In The House" to the more subdued, but no less engaging ...

Paul Anka - Rock Swings: Live At The Montreal Jazz review
$8.99 The four men who make up the smooth-jazz supergroup Fourplay are the creme de la creme of the studio scene. They've probably graced the albums of more artists than there are notes on this recording. So you can be sure that when they come together to make a collective musical statement like HEARTFELT, you're ...

Paul Anka - Rock Swings: Live At The Montreal Jazz video
$29.09 Napola refers to elite military National-Political Schools, set up to train promising young German talents into potential future leaders for the Third Reich - Man makes History, but Napola makes the Man. Set at the peak of Hitler's Nazi regime in 1942, this film explores the very different lives of two youths enrolled in such a school, and exposes some of the difficult training programme that these youths are put through. Friedrich Weimer graduated as a Hitler youth, and spends time juggling work with boxing. Impressing a talent scout with his boxing skills, he gets recruited into one of the Napola schools, to be trained as an athlete to bring the school glory. Coming from a poor home, he sees this as a chance to bring wealth for this family, although they disagree with his joining the Napola. Albrecht Stein is the son of the governor. What he lacked in the brawn department, he makes up with his gift for the written word, which often goes unappreciated, even with his parents. Two youths from different backgrounds bond together as good friends, as they undergo the tough regimental training the school has to offer. At times, it's like Dead Poet's Society in a WWII German military setting, where they challenge and subtly question the establishment ...
