| | Natalie Imbruglia Glorious-The Singles 1997-2007 Special Edition CDs (2007) (Import) Bonus DVD; United Kingdom
I Remember When I Was Young album
$22.35 What was impressive about the Natalie Imbruglia album Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007 was that Imbruglia had a writing or co-writing credit on 13 of the 14 tracks, the only one not penned by her being the one that started it all, the classic "Torn." Starting at the most unlikely source as an actress on the daytime TV soap opera Neighbours (although it had produced singing stars a decade earlier with Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan), Imbruglia had carved out a singing career with a series of pop/rock singles with superb melodies, although never managing to top the exquisiteness of the single "Torn." So after three successful albums, Left of the Middle, White Lilies Island, and the number one Counting Down the Days, her record company, BMG, released this greatest-hits compilation to sum up her career to date and also move into the future with a smattering of new tracks not previously on the three albums. All nine of her singles were included -- which had already been featured on the three studio albums -- as well as "Glorious," the first single released from this collection. No doubt to give an impression that this was a new album as well as a greatest-hits compilation, ...
| | Donald Fagen Morph The Cat CDs (2006) Special Edition with DVD
I Remember When I Was Young CD music
$19.65 Though MORPH isn't Fagen's first post-9/11outing (that would be Steely Dan's EVERYTHING MUST GO), it deals more explicitly with that world. For all the foreboding expressed in "Mary Shut the Garden Door," though, it takes a narrator as willfully perverse as Fagen to find himself turned on by the airport security officer giving him the once-over in "Security Joan." MORPH THE CAT is prime Fagen, existing in that singular Twilight Zone where Bob James plays the Leonard ...

I Remember When I Was Young album
$10.15 With new band, Ewing goes back to just singingBy Kevin C. JohnsonPOST-DISPATCH POP MUSIC CRITICThursday, Jul. 31 2008It took only five CDs to get there, but former Urge front man Steve Ewing(photo below) may be at his Urge-like best on his new CD \"Common Side Effects.\"Ewing\'s first four post-Urge CDs were his own projects, but \"Common SideEffects\" is a Steve Ewing Band release, which takes it back to the old schoolfor Ewing.\"This might sound closer to what the Urge used to do, though there\'s no hornsor keyboards,\" Ewing said.\"There\'s not a lot of stuff going on productionwise. It\'s just straight-uprock, and it sounds like what I always used to do in this capacity. It\'s thefirst record I\'ve cut with a full band,\" said Ewing, who had gotten used toperforming in an acoustic duo.Drummer Tony Barbata, guitarist Adam Hansbrough and bassist Nick Jost fill outthe band.Much like his time with the Urge, Ewing is allowed to simply sing on \"CommonSide Effects\" rather than doing nearly everything to make a record \"Prince orLenny Kravitz style,\"He hadn\'t been able to just sing for a long time.\"I can see myself doing this for quite a while. I\'ve formed a great bond withthem, and they\'re top notch,\" Ewing said of his band mates. \"I have a lot oftrust with them.\"The band recorded everything in a couple of weeks, mostly in one or two takes. The idea of holing up in a studio for six months to record was thrown out thewindow in favor of getting in and out quickly.\"I wanted to go back to the simple process of making a record, and you can onlydo that with a good band,\" Ewing said. \"We knew what we wanted to do, so wesaid let\'s not take a lot of time.\"The title track to \"Common Side Effects\" likens love to a drug.\"It\'s something that\'s great, fantastic,\" Ewing said. \"Then there\'s the sideeffects, the other part of being in love, being responsible to another person.\"The song \"Sweetest Enemy\" follows ...
