| | Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones Ain't Gonna Worry CD (1996)
Let Me Put The Head In It album
$13.25 At the age of 55, Johnny Yard Dog Jones finally had the opportunity to lead his first record date in 1996. Originally a gospel guitarist, Jones gradually made the transition to becoming a blues singer who also played harmonica and just a bit of guitar. His singing is likable and full of emotion as he explores a set of music that emphasizes 1950s-style Chicago blues, along with occasional soul ballads, but as it turns out, guitarist Johnny B. Moore unintentionally (and consistently) steals the show. A much stronger soloist than Jones, Moore's fiery statements are the main reason to acquire this disc; he is quite a powerhouse. Also on this worthy set are pianist Detroit Junior, bassist Bernard Reed and drummer Kenny Smith. ~ Scott Yanow
Johnny Yard Dog Jones - vocals, harmonica, guitar, songwriterWinner of these national blues awards1997 W.C. Handy Award - Best New Male Blues Artist1996 Living Blues Magazine Critics Poll - Best New Blues Album - ContemporaryJones, a multi-instrumentalist (guitar and harmonica) was a vital force in the Detroit music scene from 1971, when he moved there from Chicago, to 2000, when he moved to Decatur, Illinois. His voice is expressive and soulful and he has a versatile instrumental technique that can range from suave uptown blues to backstreet grit. Born John Junior Jones on June 21, 1941 on a cotton plantation in Crawfordsville, Arkansas, his family soon moved to East St. Louis, Illinois, where he grew up listening to the records of Robert Johnson, ...

| | Gil Evans Individualism Of Gil CD (1964) Japan
Let Me Put The Head In It music CDs
$29.25 If it contained nothing else than than the ravishing slow version of Kurt Weill's "Barbara Song," 1964's THE INDIVIDUALISM OF GIL EVANS would still rate as one of the greatest of '60s jazz LPs. It's possible that tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter never surpassed his solo here, which is similar in impact to the young Stan Getz's career-defining turn on Woody Herman's "Summer Sequence Pt. IV." Even though the original "Barbara Song" from THE THREEPENNY OPERA is actually pretty jaunty, this magical arrangment still has a claim as a definitive one. Elsewhere, the undulating "Las Vegas Tango," marked by an exciting solo by guitarist Kenny Burrell during the bridge, is another example of Evans at his best, which wasn't always the case since he tended to ...

Let Me Put The Head In It songs
$17.75 Lynn was born and raised in the coal fields of Southeastern Kentucky, where farming, mining, and truck driving have been his occupations since an early age. His love for music started at a very young age from listening to his Dad and brothers sitting on the front porch playing those good old gospel songs. "The first time I ever heard Merle Haggard, I knew that was what I wanted to do in life" says Jackson. His influences in music are, of course, ...

| | Josete Ordo+ez Por El Mar CD (2009) (Import)
Let Me Put The Head In It CD music
$14.99 The irresistible aroma of flamenco, pop, jazz and chillout Josete OrdoƱez awakens the dreamer in us. With Por El Marā, the Spaniard breathes longing into us, bringing fantasies to life, painting imaginary pictures, and creating moods that we otherwise only know from a perfect summer day at the sea. His music tells of paper boats on the lake, the blue of the ocean, the timelessness of feelings, and the sound of the wind. āPor El Marā is the soundtrack of an intimate wish to get to a place where the soul can find peace. It sounds like Pat Metheny fusing with flamenco-chill band Chambao, opening new dimensions of Mediterranean serenity.Artfully, Josete OrdoƱez embellishes his gentle songs with the virtuoso techniques of the Spanish guitar, his actual musical origin, without ever sounding as hard as a typical flamenco guitarist. He demonstrates a sense for fine, soft melodies and placating harmonies.. Lounge grooves accompany his songs in such a laid-back way that āPor El Marā sounds like it could have been poured out of a cocktail shaker from paradise. Josete OrdoƱez studied the guitar (jazz and flamenco) under such diverse guitarists as Juan Maya Marote, Serranito, Tomatito, Steve Brown, Eddy Goltz, and Sean Leavytt. His touring around the globe with his own band Elementales, with ensembles like CompaƱĆa Flamenca JoaquĆn Ruiz, CompaƱĆa IbĆ©rica de Danza, and Eliseo Parra Band etc. helped Josete to develop his own style. He played first guitar at the world famous La Maestranza in Madrid. Sensuous and perfectly dreamy, the songs are by no means solely dominated by Josete OrdoƱez's guitar. ...
