Purchase Live! CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Adam Lambert For Your Entertainment CD (2009)
Live! songs
$11.18 (MP3 Available for Download) With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern ...

| | Audio Learning Center Friendships Often Fade Away CD (2002)
Live! CD music
$12.95 (MP3 Available for Download) Principally recorded at Studio X, Space Studio, Seattle, Washington; Kung Fu Bakery, Portland, Oregon.
Audio Learning Center's Friendships Often Fade Away shows a nice change of pace for Vagrant Records. It displays a band whose members aren't teenagers or early twenty-somethings and don't make poppy, bubblegum punk music for teenage girls; they come off as if saying, "Yeah, we know we're not who you're gonna think of when you think of this label." But Audio Learning Center is probably fine with that. These guys are veterans of the music scene; the music that they craft is therefore much more tender and patient. Sure, sometimes it does lean toward the familiar scent of Vagrant darlings the Get Up Kids or that power pop supergroup Weezer, but the members of Audio Learning Center also know how to express their melancholic feelings on songs such as "Hand Me Downs," "Prescription," and the song from which the album title is pulled, "The Dream." At these moments, the band bears greater resemblance to a mature rock trio like Athens, GA's Five Eight, who, although older, still know how to have a great time rocking while also being mature enough to handle serious songs with the right care and understanding. Any complete review of Friendships Often Fade Away would have to also mention the amazing artwork by Rick Boston and Audio Learning Center's ...
| | Bonnie Raitt Silver Lining CD (2002)
Live! MP3 Album
$11.89 (MP3 Available for Download) "Time Of Our Lives" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
SILVER LINING may be Bonnie Raitt's 16th album, but this scarlet-haired troubadour shows no signs of a creative downturn. Still possessing a rich singing style, an exemplary guitar style, and a passion that imbues every note she sings, Raitt returns to work with the production team of Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake. Always known to have a keen ear for budding lyricists, Raitt does a fine job in presenting a wide range of songwriters, from the ethereal title track penned by David Gray to the bouncy, GRACELAND-flavored "Hear Me Lord" by Zimbabwean Oliver Mtukudzi, and the esoteric blues of "Back Around," a collaboration with Mali guitarist Habib Koite.
Bonnie kicks back and has fun trading slide guitar licks with fellow slide master Roy Rogers on the barrelhouse raunch of "Gnawin' On It," wallowing in the funky grit of "Monkey Business," and pouring some soulful singing into the Memphis-flavored snap, crackle, and pop that defines "Time Of Our Lives." Equally noteworthy is "Valley Of Pain" with its yearning vibe, and the nudge-and-wink-infused sass of "Fool's Game." For new and old Bonnie Raitt fans alike, there's no tarnish on this SILVER LINING.
Recorded at The Sound Factory, Hollywood, California.
Personnel: Bonnie Raitt (vocals, slide guitar, background vocals); Jon Cleary (vocals, piano, Clavinet, Wurlitzer organ, keyboards, Moog synthesizer, background vocals); George Marinelli (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, background vocals); Mike Dean (guitar, keyboards); Andy ...
| | Faultline Your Love Means Everything CD (2002) Bonus Track
Live! music CDs
$23.45 (MP3 Available for Download) Additional personnel includes: Chris Martin (vocals, keyboards); Cannibal Ox, Jacob Golden, Wayne Coyne, Michael Stipe (vocals).
Principally recorded at Chung King, New York, New York and Jacobs Studios, Surrey, England.
This second album from Faultline (the solo project of electronica producer David Kosten) features guest appearances from Michael Stipe, Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, and Chris Martin of Coldplay.
This international release contains three cuts different from the U.S. version.
Prolific producer David Kosten's second solo album positions Faultline as another in a line of electronic musicians who excel in blending moody tones with guest vocals. The list of collaborators on Your Love Means Everything is quite impressive. Guests include Michael Stipe, Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips, Chris Martin from Coldplay, newcomer Jacob Golden, and ex-Verve guitarist Nick McCabe. It's the songs that enlist the help of Kosten's famous admirers that really sparkle and take off. Chris Martin's pensive vocal delivery on "Where Is My Boy" and the title track suggest a more subtle, introspective take on Coldplay. The sweeping, glitchy "Bitter Kiss" works like an electro-Western ballad, thanks to Jacob Golden's touching Thom Yorke-like falsetto. Wayne Coyne's fractured, brittle lullaby might not reach the peaks of Sparklehorse, but the song works slight magic as a creepy, sad passion play. Michael Stipe appears to be having fun on "Greenfields"; his haunted voice makes for a mystical, almost ...
| | Fu Manchu (Godzilla's) Eatin' Dust CD (2004)
Live! songs
$12.95 Fu Manchu are never at a loss for new material, as it seems like each year the group has either a new full-length or EP to offer fans. And one of their more popular mini-albums is (Godzilla's) Eatin' Dust, a compilation that merges two earlier EPs, 1997's Godzilla and 1999's Eatin' Dust, together as one (hence the compilation/reissue's title). As with all their releases, Fu Manchu lay it on hard and heavy throughout, including such eventual fan favorites as "Eatin' Dust" and "Mongoose" as well as a killer cover of Blue Öyster Cult's stoner rock classic "Godzilla." For some bands, EPs consist of throwaway tracks that weren't strong enough for ...
