With 2005's DISTURBING THA PEACE, Ludacris once again joins the grand hip-hop tradition of established rappers lending a helping hand to the crews they came up with. Although first and foremost a showcase for his label, Ludacris fans will be happy to know that he's all over the album, standing firmly in the spotlight on tunes like "Sweet Revenge" and "Family Affair." Not surprisingly--given Ludacris's barking drawl of a delivery, his wit, and his sense of fun--these are the high points of the album. Still, there's plenty to listen to here; in addition to a host of Hotlanta talent, including Shawnna, Lil' Fatek, and various members of Field Mob, the collection's first single, "Georgia," features Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx on vocals. And although the album's lyrics tend to stick to Ludacris's favorite subjects--partying, smoking, and sex--there are also poignant tales of growing up in Atlanta's rougher neighborhoods, and the camaraderie necessary to get by. DISTURBING THA PEACE also comes with an exclusive bonus DVD that features videos and documentary footage.
Five solo artists and four groups -- in addition to drop-by guests Jamie Foxx, Stat Quo, Rich Boy, and Gangsta Boo -- make up the second Disturbing tha Peace album. Keeping tabs on who you're hearing during most moments can be dizzying, and DTP is only united by Ludacris' presence and grooming, so it's not an easy album to follow. Like Golden Grain, this does not live up to the standards of a Ludacris solo album, but it has a few replayable tracks, such as Ludacris and Field Mob's rallying "Georgia" (with Foxx doing his getting-tired-fast Ray Charles), Norfclk's nasty Needlz-produced "Put Ya Hands Up," and the underrated Shawnna's low-slung "Gettin' Some." Bobby Valentino and newcomer Shareefa bring the R&B, while Lazyeye is a competent but average metal band that is given a bonus-track slot. Ludacris Presents: Disturbing Tha Peace songs
$18.55 Nandin was born in Canada and played the piano and guitar until she became infatuated with the flute. She studied with world famous flutists and followed a career as an orchestral musician and flute teacher. Later, playing with musicians from all over the world she started improvising and found her own musical style. In my own words:As a child, music was something magical for me. Our piano held hidden secrets that I understood from the adults around me only a music wizard was qualified to impart to me. The scales and music theory that this included were a disappointment however, and I gave it up after a few years. I had my first 'spiritual' experience as a child while walking around in the snow one afternoon, singing, which brought me to such a state of bliss that tears overflowed. As I returned home, I realized that I couldn't tell anyone about this - they would think I was nuts! So I proceeded with 'normal' life, tried to get good grades, and was basically not terribly fulfilled. A big turning point for me came when my older brother died. He had been discovering the illusion of the society that we live in, and had pointed out some of the lies and inconsistencies within which we operate. This set me on the path of trying to make sense of it all. I was also learning the guitar at around this time, and composing songs out of the angst of teenage-hood, (a tried and true way of surviving adolescent confusion). One day, when I was 16, I heard someone playing the flute, and suddenly I had to have one. I mean, I really had to have one! I saved up by selling corn dogs (wieners dipped in corn batter) at the local fair (the Calgary Stampede). When the flute arrived, I was entranced. With it, I loved improvising music with my friends, but somehow ended up on the path of becoming a professionally trained musician. This involved studying with famous flutists, practicing for hours daily, getting a music degree in composition, playing in an orchestra and various ensembles and finally teaching at the local University and Music College. That ...
