| | Eric Burdon Soul Of A Man CD Eric Burdon Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Following on the heels of 2004's well-received MY SECRET LIFE, Eric Burdon's SOUL OF A MAN presents the former Animal in a charming variety of musical modes. Burdon offers up funk grooves ("Kingsize Jones") and blues tunes that are both raucous ("40 Days") and mellow ("Slow Moving Train"), all showcasing his passionate and world-weary vocals.
Personnel: Eric Burdon (vocals); Johnny Lee Schell (guitar, guitars, slide guitar, background vocals); Carl Carlton (guitar, guitars, slide guitar); Rod Piazza (harmonica); Joe Sublett (tenor saxophone); Les Lovitt (trumpet, flugelhorn); Nick Lane (trombone, bass trombone); Jon Cleary (piano); Michael Thompson (Hammond b-3 organ); Reggie McBride (bass instrument); Ivan Neville (Clavinet, background vocals); Tony Braunagel (drums); Lenny Castro (shaker, tambourine, percussion); Melodye Perry (background vocals).
Entertainment Weekly (p.71) - "What is mildly astonishing is how utterly solid, heartfelt, and authentic this grizzled limey sounds belting this stuff out." -- Grade: B Uncut (p.76) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Burdon's feel for his material is impressive....There's enough funk flying around to draw comparisons to Little Feat at their most robust." Dirty Linen (p.87) - "SOUL OF A MAN is an album that will assure Burdon's reputation as a credible blues singer. The arrangements explore various facets of the genre..." Mojo (Publisher) (p.94) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Burdon gets right inside all the pain and ark humour....He sings harsh truth..." Eric Burdon Soul Of A Man Songs | 1. | Soul of a Man |

| Soul Of A Man Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Blues are alive!
If you are expecting the Animals on this CD, you may find a trace (especially if you are a serious Animals fan)but if you are a fan of the BLues, then Eric can still belt them out. This is a raw and gritty well recorded and produced CD. Sadly, with radio being in the state it is today, most people will never hear this CD. When overextended, over produced and ear splitting artists like Mariah Carey get all the airplay, there is no room for true and real music like this CD on the airwaves. Trust this man's history and buy this CD! Submitted by djgator1 (Asheville, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Eric has done it again! On the heels of the very good "My Secret Life" CD issued in 2004, this effort shows that there is still fire in the man that helped the blues revival with the British invasion in the 60's. As with the Animals recordings of that time, this 2006 recording puts a white British face on the blues.
There are some classic gems such as 44 Blues and 40 Days that Eric breaths fresh life into. He respectively remains close to the style of the originals but puts his own touch on these classics. There are also some new blues tunes such as GTO and Feeling Blue that keep the CD from being a rehash of old blues classics, which can be imitated but never duplicated (how can one compete with Muddy and Howlin' Wolf).
Eric has teamed up with some fine musicians who compliment his vocals quite nicely. As with "my Secret Life", there is a nice cross-section of material - the latin feel of "Como Se Llama Mama", a mellower "Slow Moving Train", nice slide work on "Red Cross Store", a rockin' "Devil Run" and of course the purest touch to the classics previously mentioned. A disc sure not to disappoint and make you wonder what took him so long! Submitted by Spike (Glastonbury, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Soul Of A Man album
$13.85 My Secret Life consists of 13 tracks that form a loose song cycle revolving around Eric Burdon's love of American music, specifically R&B, soul, blues, and jazz. While that theme dominates the entire record it is especially true on the eight tunes penned or co-written by Burton. "Can't Kill the Boogieman" is a heartfelt tribute dedicated to John Lee Hooker featuring Burdon's cherished memories of the blues legend sung over the tune of Hooker's classic "Boogie Chillen." He also shades/characterizes such artists as Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Philly Joe Jones, Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker, Otis Redding, and Chet Baker with first person observations, a skill no doubt honed with a foray into writing his autobiography Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood: A Memoir. Burdon's voice is in fine shape, and he effortlessly jumps from soft spoken passages to his ...

| | J J Jackson But It's Alright CD (1967)
Soul Of A Man music CDs
$9.95 Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, covered by the Pretty Things, and then reclaimed powerfully here), and "Boogaloo Baby," midtempo groovers like "You've Got Me Dizzy" and "The Stones That I Throw," and ballads like "Try Me" and a righteous ...

Soul Of A Man CD music
$23.29 All Saints were a popular R&B band in their native U.K. The two sisters from the band perform on this release, which continues in a similar musical vein.
The fortunes of artists who go solo once their pop group has disbanded has always been hard to predict. Robbie Williams is an obvious example, but the likes of Simon Webbe and Geri Halliwell, to name two more, have achieved far greater success than anticipated, often at the expense of their much more fancied bandmates. So it shouldn't come as too much of a shock that the Appleton sisters, formerly of chart-toppers All Saints, have easily surpassed some rather lowly expectations with their debut album. Nicole and Natalie may be famous for their rock star boyfriends and Heat magazine appearances, but Everything's Eventual positions them as gifted songwriters, with a knack for a strong pop melody that could see them overshadowing their more prominent former group members Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt. Taking Madonna's seminal Ray of Light as its inspiration, the duo combines shimmering electronica, acoustic pop, and heartfelt understated ballads to produce an eclectic and confident first offering not a million miles away from another solo attempt by a former member of a girl band: Melanie C's Northern Star. Hits like the pop/rock fusion of "Fantasy" and the acoustic ballad "Don't Worry" (the missing link ...
