The New Wave group's Platinum collection consists of their best from the Warner/Elektra music archives. Named after an Andy Warhol painting, B-Movie formed in 1979 with Steve Hovington (vocals), Paul Statham (guitars), Graham Boffey (drums), and Rick Holliday (keyboards). Inspired by synth-pop pioneers like Ultravox and New Order, B-Movie wrote catchy songs enveloped in keyboards. The group was signed to the Some Bizarre record label in the early '80s; in 1981, the band appeared on a Some Bizarre compilation album with future '80s synth-pop superstars such as Depeche Mode, Blancmange, and Soft Cell. In 1982, the single 'Nowhere Girl' was a hit in Europe. 2005. Platinum Collection Music B-Movie Platinum Collection Songs | 1. | Letter From Afar | |

| Platinum Collection Music Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Typical 1980's nostalgia! I just wanted to add to the reviews already written that the 12-inch version of Nowhere Girl is included on the Spanish import compilation "I Love Techno Pop" (volume 1, 1999) which is available also here on CD Universe at the time of this writing (Spring 2006).
The present platinum compilation is a welcome addition, but it misses a few nice B-Move tracks. These were included on the 2002's BBC sessions, such as "No Shadow Of Doubt", and "Furnishing The Empty Dream". All in all not a bad offering, considering the low price. Anti-climatic, at best. I love synth, especially the classic stuff, and I remember "Nowhere Girl" from my high school days. Therefore, I decided to purchase this album to see what else I may have missed by this group. Turns out that I didn't miss much. The music is, well, just kind of mediocre. There aren't any stand-out tracks aside from "Nowhere Girl." None of the other tracks stick in your memory beyond their playing time, and there isn't anything that makes you want to hear it all again. And, to make things worse, there are extended mixes of a few of the bland tracks but not a blessed one of "Nowhere Girl," which actually sounds even better in its extended form (with the long piano intro.) You only get the original album cut. The beautiful extended version is completely out-of-print, to the best of my knowledge, and a "platinum collection" should have included it as the centerpiece.

There's one star pending Originally known as "Forever Running" in a LP format, now is presented like a compilation. The 12" maxis plus a single has been a good intention effort, only. But after being for more than two decades out of the market it is nice two have this record in a clean CD format. Audio quality is good to excellent, it has been taken from the masters, indeed. But there's one star pending, that's the 12" single of "nowhere girl" which included the track "scare some life" as b-side.This song "scare some life" is the best b'movie song, by far, probably. Undiscovered Gem Finally after 20 years, B-Movie's "Forever Running" album is on CD. Their only full-length album from 1985 was a gem, but regrettably was their last. Warner Bros has released this collection CD (the full album plus some extra 12" versions) and for any fans of the alternative sounds of the 80's this is a must. Great synths, harmonies and well structured melodies. After all these years the album still sounds fresh and the transfer to CD is a good one. At this price this is an unbelievable value. Disappointment After only hearing Nightmares in Wax (1982) and this Platinum Collection I have to say the difference between these two is big. So if you really like 80's new wave, try and find the original first album, that would've earned 4-5 stars. Submitted by Pipsa (Helsinki, Finland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$10.49 First off, the name -- the sexual innuendo implied in the band's moniker, Kissing the Pink -- surely races to the surface, but the truth of the matter is that the name is derived from a snooker/billiards reference to a weak shot; the innuendo was just a lucky coincidence. The band certainly lost more than they gained from the cross-referencing. Their music had very little to do with overt sexuality, but that name (coupled with ...

Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles ...
