Ocean Soundtrack album
$7.59 Quite simply, Rocky IV was a movie for the ages. The story of a man who had it all, only to lose so much overnight. Revolving around tension and alienation on the personal, political, spiritual and athletic levels, Sylvester Stallone's portrayal of Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV was without question the most multi-dimensional role of his career. This isn't to shirk the original Rocky, which dealt with questions of class, ethnicity, and overcoming obstacles to victory -- but Rocky IV was more of a movie to be related to on a universal scale.
This indomitable spirit is best exemplified ...
| | Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band CDs (1978) Original Soundtrack
Ocean Soundtrack CD music
$14.89 Like the album itself, the soundtrack to the 1978 film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a legend in its own right. Where the Beatles' album was a groundbreaking moment in pop music, the Robert Stigwood film was an unmitigated disaster, an embarrassment not only to the Beatles, but to everyone involved in the production. Nevertheless, as the years passed and '70s nostalgia grew, certain kitsch fanatics revealed an affection for the debacle, so ...
| | My Way: The Paul Jones Collection Vol. 1 CD (1996) (Import) United Kingdom
Ocean Soundtrack music CDs
$17.95 This collection includes the 1966 album MY WAY, the PRIVILEGE EP, three non-album singles and two previously unreleased tracks.
Jones' debut album, 1966's My Way, found him and/or his record company seemingly determined to follow a far more all-around pop entertainer sound than Paul had trodden as the lead singer of Manfred Mann. Such strategies rarely yield fruitful results, and that was the case here, with a set list that, in trying to please everybody, came up short all around. Much of it is big-ballad pop in a sub-Tom Jones sort of style, and R&B/blues influences are, incredibly, virtually absent. Jones does manage to sneak in a few of his own songs (including an inferior remake of one he had done with the Manfreds, "She Needs Company"), but these are hardly exceptional. Coming on the heels of the Manfred Mann era, the bloated British orchestral-pop arrangements -- more suited to Petula Clark (but not as good as Petula's) -- were disappointing indeed, yet the album did yield a big British hit with "High Time." The CD reissue improves things considerably with the addition of nine bonus cuts from the same era, taken from EPs, singles, and unreleased tracks. These are highlighted by the EP versions of "Privilege" and "Free Me" (the latter reworked by Patti Smith in the mid-'70s), although be aware that this is not the same version of "Free Me" as the ...

| | King And I CD (1956) Bonus Track
Ocean Soundtrack CD music
$8.85 Music composed by Richard Rodgers. Lyrics written by Oscar Hammerstein II.
Digitally remastered by Darcy M. Proper, Jen Wyler (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Considered by many to be an improvement on the original cast album that followed the show's 1951 Broadway production, this record features the unmistakable tones of the definitive "King," Yul Brynner, but his co-star Deborah Kerr's singing voice is skillfully dubbed by one of the undisputed mistresses of that art, Marni Nixon. It is difficult to spot the point at which Kerr stops speaking and Nixon begins singing on lovely songs such as "Shall We Dance?" and "Getting To Know You," but after listening to the score again on the 1993 CD reissue, it is easy to understand the album's long tenure in the UK (103 weeks) and US (178 weeks) bestsellers lists.
The 1956 film soundtrack album for director Walter Lang's adaptation of The King and I is distinguished from the Broadway cast album chiefly by the expanded orchestrations, played by the large studio orchestra conducted by Alfred Newman, and by the presence of Marni Nixon in the role of Anna Leonowens. On film, the part was played by Deborah Kerr (whose spoken parts are retained on the soundtrack), but Nixon, one of the best invisible voices in Hollywood (she also ghosted Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady) is the wonderful singer of songs like "I Whistle a Happy Tune" and "Getting to Know You," sung onstage by Gertrude Lawrence, who died before the film was made. Yul Brynner repeats his performance as the king, and Leona Gordon (dubbing Rita Moreno) gets to play Tuptim and sing "We Kiss in a Shadow." This is a Hollywood ...
