In 1949 just before he was about to start yet another big band, Artie Shaw made the following statement: 'We'll find an identity. Perhaps it would be fairer to say I'll find one. Sooner or later all bands that stick find an identity, and find it through their leader. All the sounds, the creative arrangements, the pop tunes and the originals, must be channelized through the leader''. And on September 14, 1949 Artie Shaw was back on the bandstand, opening at Symphony Hall, Boston. The band's book contained both old and new material, and it was the first time Shaw had gone on the road with a band for many years. The 1949 band features a mixture of numbers associated with the Shaw bands of the early 40's and some in a more modern vein from new writers/arrangers such as Tadd Dameron, Johnny Mandel, Gene Roland and George Russell, with the more exotic Latin sounds coming from the pen of John Bartee. $14.29 Brian Bromberg's fourth recording for the Artistry label, and first since they were acquired by the Mack Avenue label, is a fairly predictable program of contemporary jazz, commercial funk, and pop song covers, as well as uptown New York City R&B-type dance tunes that should appeal to the urban crowd. His prominent electric bass guitar always has a retro feel going ...

Aristry Of Artie Shaw 1949
$9.49 Thank-you for allowing me time to share my testimony with you and my new CD, “The Awakening”. My primary concern is where GOD has directed my steps concerning the spiritual growth my wife and I now enjoy, and the music I’ve been able to create to glorify Christ. I don’t currently have a bio covering this part of my life, but I can say that I know it’s GOD’s purpose for me to do this music because it was never my plan. The Lord and my praying wife brought me to this reality, and I enjoy it very much. I labored in service excellence and obedience to GOD for two years at a local church (I’m not a church musician), and I\'ve learned a lot about GOD’s Grace, and about transition. I never thought that I could do the R&B and Jazz, as well as music for Christ. As a child I always heard the words \"No double-mindedness ... no fence-riding\". I understood that to mean \'either-or\' ... certainly not all. Listening to the Word in church while providing music to help the congregation get their breakthrough has help me to receive mine. My steps have been directed away from the church environment where I started (18 members in a high school auditorium turned into approximately 150 members 2 years later), and now I go around to local churches that have nothing or very little resources musically. I provide the music for the full service in accordance with the Pastor’s wishes for that service. Churches with nothing are close to my heart, therefore I ask for nothing in return except to receive the opportunity to try ...
