| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Neiro CD music
$13.89 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and fully grown into her ability. Her own band, now well bedded-in, is superb and sympathetic, but there are some surprising additions (Paraguayan harp, anyone?). Natacha Atlas weighs in for a duet on the title cut, which becomes a gentle contest between the two singers, both of whom work out of their skins on the track. This is a disc of real beauty, with plenty of heartbreak, ...
| | Laura Pausini Io Canto CD (2006)
Neiro music CDs
$7.55 Laura Pausini, a multilingual Italian pop singer who won a Latin Grammy in 2005 for Best Female Pop Vocal Album, decided to record an album of cover songs when she returned to the studio to record her follow-up effort. This is a fairly standard practice for pop/rock artists, of course, especially in the wake of a mammoth success like the one Pausini experienced with Resta in Ascolto (released concurrently in Spanish as Escucha in the Americas). Yo Canto (likewise released concurrently in Spanish) is a somewhat unusual covers album, however, for it's comprised of Italian pop/rock songs from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s -- few, if any, of which will be familiar to listeners across the Atlantic. Pausini performs the songs in a manner similar to that of Resta in Ascolto: the songs are heavily produced, layered with guitar, bass, and drums in addition to strings and synthesizers, and the performances are quite dramatic, often soaring to intense heights during the choruses, complemented by lyrics that are moody and poetic. | | Hector Zazou In The House Of Mirrors CD (2008) (Import) Digipak; Belgium
Neiro songs
$13.75 Composer, arranger, and producer Hector Zazou released a string of relentlessly inventive albums between 1983 and 2008. On the last of these, IN THE HOUSE OF MIRRORS, Zazou collaborated with Swara, an Indian-Uzbeki group who re-envision the classical music of the Middle East and South Asia. As with Zazou's previous projects, consummate craftsmanship and postmodern production techniques are clearly evident, yet IN THE HOUSE OF MIRRORS is devoid of jarring juxtapositions ...
| | Trivium Crusade CD (2006)
Neiro album
$15.09 Trivium brought the heavy music scene to its knees with the brilliance of 2005's ASCENDENCY. Aggressive touring helped them to build a rabid following and honed the band's already fierce chops. The progression of CRUSADE showcases a young group poised to inherit the coveted metal music crown from the very artists that inspired them to play. With the collaboration of co-producer and engineer Jason Suecof, the band pushes their ...

$20.99 | | Bosch Hurry Up CD (2007)
Neiro CD music
$7.49 Greasy twang, driving rhythms, a sense of melody and brevity contribute to a sound that draws on influences from the entirety of rock and roll’s storied history. This is The Bosch, a New York City quartet who sounds something like what might happen “if Brian Wilson, Dick Dale, and Joey Ramone stayed up all night taking speed pills and Ritalin.”With the release of the new EP, Hurry Up, the band plans to introduce more listeners to their high-tempo, high-volume melodic pop music. Matt Harrison (guitar/vocals) and Holt Richardson (drums/vocals) trace their musical collaborations back to high school days. Joined by Andrew Raff (saxophone/keyboards) and Valerie Sauve (bass/vocals), The Bosch sound like a raucous mix of The Clash, The Violent Femmes and Phil Spector with a side of Springsteen and a dash of Man… Or Astroman. The band’s previous album, Buy One, Get One, enjoyed spins at hundreds of college radio stations, debuted at #21 on the FMQB Specialty FM Alternative Charts in December 2005, and was featured on XM Radio’s RADAR Report and Unsigned at WOXY.com. The Bosch’s music has ...
