| | Beyond Agony Last Of A Dying Breed CD Beyond Agony Discography of CDs
There is a level of intensity, musicianship, and substance that heavy metal audiences have been seeking for some time. It exists within a band, untouched by trends, and fueled with aggression. Combining old school style with new school aesthetics is Beyond Agony. The songs that the five of them produce are fierce, intelligent, and compelling which is why so many continue to find solace in their music.
Beyond Agony: Matt Tetrick (vocals); Tom Beenken, Andy Nixon (guitar); Matt Wambscanss (bass guitar); Shane Ailey (drums, percussion).

Last Of A Dying Breed CD music
$6.49 Possessing metal pipes like few before him, leonine Steelheart yelper Michael Matijevic scarred the airwaves forever when he hammered the simply unmatchable chorus of the hairball "I'll Never Let You Go": ludicrous and sublime, akin to Whitney Houston hitting the hot spot in "I Will Always Love You." The opening strands of "Everybody Loves Eileen" bring Ratt out of the cellar before the cut curls into a pop n' fresh roller coaster ride. The remainders on this ridiculous dish are also overlong examples of excess but not as memorable, ...
| | Venom Welcome To Hell CD (1981)
Last Of A Dying Breed music CDs
$10.45 Welcome to Hell, and Venom themselves, for that matter, have long been the subject of heated debate within the heavy metal community. Few bands have been as recognizably influential yet so universally panned by critics during their careers, and, of course, it was this, their first long-player, which ignited most of that controversy in the first place. This shocking debut was the scene of a bloody, head-on collision between Black Sabbath's original heavy metal commandments and lyrical obsessions with all things demonic, and Motörhead's unparalleled distortion and breakneck speed. Make no mistake: Welcome to Hell, more than any other album, crystallized the elements of what later became known as thrash, death, black, and virtually every other form of extreme metal, serving as a primer for thousands of post-New Wave of British Heavy Metal teens to follow. Primitive with a capital P, the album's production values are so poor that fittingly Welcome to Hell truly sounds like it was recorded in a tomb, the band's Marshall stacks caked with dirt and oozing worms even as they tore through their material like a pack of speed freaks. It's not that the hellish triumvirate of bassist/growler ...
| | Dena DeRose Love's Holiday CD (2002)
Last Of A Dying Breed songs
$14.29 Versatile, resourceful, and genuine, Dena de Rose is without a doubt one of jazz's most underrated singers. Her fourth Sharp Nine outing again showcases not only her refined vocal and piano abilities, but also her meticulously expressive approach to arranging. Adding Sara Della Posta's French horn on three tracks, including a disarmingly moving version of "The Good Life," is one small but significant example. Others include the funk groove and broken-up lines that begin "Birk's Works," the combination of Jim Rotondi's processed trumpet and Joe Locke's vibes on "Close Your Eyes," and the wily shift to D minor (rather than the usual F major) on the first eight bars of "I Thought About You." (It's well worth reading de Rose's self-penned liner notes for more background on these and other inspired touches.) Backed by bassist Peter Washington ...

| | Kiss Gold CDs (2005) With DVD; Digipak
Last Of A Dying Breed CD music
$25.35 This release includes a bonus DVD featuring live concert footage and music videos.
Besides arguing over which B+ or A- tracks are missing ("Why did they include "'Talk to Me'" instead of "'Charisma'"?") the only thing bad you can say about the two-disc Gold is that its cover art is too much in the style of Universal's Millennium Collection series. The near-perfect track listing deserves a better face than this generic, part-of-a-series artwork, but chuck that and the short, hyperbole-filled essay and you're left with make-up era as good as it gets. Think of a big hit and it's here -- in its live version if that's what's called for -- while the filler is so well chosen you just know the compilers have a Kiss Army membership patch somewhere in their dresser drawers. Laid out chronologically, Gold snaps up three or four key tracks from each golden-age album, gives the mighty Destroyer a little extra attention, gets more picky from Dynasty on, and breezes through the solo albums with only one song each from the four of them (which is being really kind to Peter Criss). You get to follow the band from their gutsy beginnings to their bombastic, arena rock-middle while getting a taste of the later iffy years and stopping short of when ...
