The exact equivalent of those albums in the '60s where a bunch of slumming jazz musicians would spend an afternoon doing easy listening takes of Beatles songs, Streetwize's Does Dre would be utterly hilarious but for one thing: for all the inherent comedy of the premise (which the group never plays up, but doesn't avoid, either), the album actually works more often than not. As the title suggests, this is ten songs associated with Dr. Dre, including Eminem's "My Name Is," Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice," and "Nuthin' But a G Thang," given mostly instrumental, sax-heavy smooth jazz arrangements. The results may well make the average West Coast gangsta rapper slightly ill, but aside from a couple of half-hearted and ill-advised forays into actual rapping, the group focuses on Dre's roots in '70s-vintage soul and funk, bringing out that key influence and rebuilding the songs from there. Anyone who liked any of Grover Washington, Jr.'s '80s and beyond work would find something to appreciate here. ~ Stewart Mason

Its so unique but at the same time its something you are familiar with. I disagree with Holly, sure they could have used other artists, but Dr. Dre is classic but still amazing, and it includeds songs from the most popular artists of today. You have to be a Dre fan to love this cd!!!
Since I am almost 40 years old now, I can remember the music back in the 80's and when Dre and friends came on the set, it was a sound that I had never heard before, it is a must buy if your a real Old Skool Head!!!! Submitted by rurdy4bigmike (Charlotte N.C.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Why choose Dre? There are so many other artists to make tribute albums for that would be so much smoother. Production is weaker than it could be. They tried! Submitted by Holly (la, ca.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Does Dre music CDs
$13.25 Very few of the British blues-rock bands of the '60s were still active in the 2000s; the exceptions to that rule included the Yardbirds (who broke up in 1968 and reunited for their Birdland album in 2003), Ten Years After and the long-running Savoy Brown. Of course, describing Savoy Brown as long-running is not to say that they have maintained the same personnel since their formation in 1966; Savoy Brown has been a revolving door, and one could write a book about all the different Savoy lineups that have existed over the years. Unfortunately, the liner notes for Blues, Balls & Boogie ...

Does Dre songs
$11.39 Born and raised on the south side of Chicago Richard Raven first heard the blues of Louis Jordan, T-Bone Walker and Pee Wee Crayton coming from his mother's stereo. His older cousin later brought home the records of Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Magic Sam, Slim Harpo, Buddy Guy and Otis Rush. After seeing Freddy King at the Kinetic Playground, he started going to Maxwell Street on Sunday afternoons to see Johnny Dollar, Lefty Dizz and Jimmie Lee Robinson play in the alleys and on the street corners. The 1970s were spent going to the clubs and taverns on the south side of Chicago and Chicago Heights to see and hear raw urban blues. After playing in bands for 5 years and doing a 15 year stint in U.S. Navy, where he acquired the Reverend tag, Chief Raven hung up his anchors to give music another go. That was 12 years ago and he hasn't looked back. Since then he has become a regular on the Midwest blues circuit, playing Buddy Guy's Legends, The Slippery Noodle, Memphis Smoke, Fat Fish Blue, Blues on Grand, ...
