ONE ON ONE marks the first team up between keyboardist Bob James and guitarist Earl Klugh. Unlike the later TWO OF A KIND or COOL, this 1979 collaboration really conveys the magical connection between these two fine jazz musicians. James and Klugh each composed three of the six tracks, and the result is an extremely well blended album.
ONE ON ONE really delivers. James' compositional prowess shines on the Latin-tinged "Mallorca," where Klugh is allowed to show off some of his own fancy finger-work. Drummer Harvey Mason, electric bassists Gary King and Neil Jason, and acoustic bassist Ron Carter provide notable support. James downplays the orchestral counterpart that feature so prominently on his other '70s releases.
Personnel: Bob James (keyboards); Earl Klugh (guitar).
Personnel: Bob James (piano, keyboards); Earl Klugh (acoustic guitar); Eric Gale (guitar); Ron Carter (upright bass); Gary King (bass guitar); Harvey Mason, Sr. (drums); Ralph MacDonald (percussion).

One On One album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
One On One CD music
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
One On One music CDs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums ...
| | Marshall Tucker Band Where We All Belong CD (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
One On One songs
$10.69 Originally released on Capricorn Records (0145). Includes liner notes by Barry Alfonso.
Although it runs a little long, Where We All Belong captures the sound of The Marshall Tucker Band coming into its own. Half the tracks are new studio recordings, which are more focused than their previous releases; the other half is a harder-edged, jam-oriented live set. Taken together, they show that the band was progressing musically. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
One On One album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit ...

True to form, THE DEEP END ranges in flavor from easy listening to funky explorations that incorporate samba, Caribbean themes, and rock. The musicianship of the ...

| | David Dahlstein Study Your Own Heart CD (2006)
One On One album
$16.45 Accomplished trombonist/pianist David Dahlsten and the jazz troupe he calls Rainbow Dancing has released a thought-provoking and invigorating collection of eight original tunes on a CD entitled Study Your Own Heart that is by turns vibrant, breezy and ethereal. David Dahlsten has spent over 40 years studying Jazz, Salsa, R&B and Classical styles and playing Trombone as a sideman with some of the greats such as Bobby Womack, Buddy Miles, Asukita and Johnny Martinez. Dahlsten started writing poetry while traveling with the Buddy Miles band in the 70's as it made him feel good. He knew he also wanted to compose his own music so in 1996 he began studying piano with Lloyd Hebert, also a trombone player, and it opened the door for him to write not only musical lines but also chord signatures - now he had a home for his poetry. Study Your Own Heart, Dahlsten's second CD project, has a relaxed energy that serves to perfectly compliment its powerful musicianship. It's evident from the opening tune Damn If I Know, whose easy horns and tight harmonies set a tangible mood for all that follows. It melds into the insistent horns and catchy rhythms of Delirious Desire, the album's second tune and is followed by the vigorous intensity of Lofted Winged Essence. Study Your Own Heart, the title song, is permeated by an irresistible staccato beat while Can't Stand the Violence is a memorably urgent call for sanity in a world gone mad that's bolstered by passionate spoken-word vocal from Verrel Reed. By contrast, Princess of San Juan brings us back to paradise with its easy, smooth tempo that lap at our senses ...
