Personnel: Bob James (keyboards); Earl Klugh (guitar). Personnel: Bob James (piano, keyboards); Earl Klugh (acoustic guitar); Eric Gale (guitar); Ron Carter (upright bass); Gary King (bass guitar); Harvey Mason, Sr. (drums); Ralph MacDonald (percussion). Hot on the heels of his commercial breakthrough Touchdown, which contained the monster hit "Angela (Theme from Taxi)," Bob James teamed up with acoustic guitarist Earl Klugh for the first of two hit duet albums. One on One is not strictly a duet side, however. The pair is accompanied by a band of crack studio types that includes James' former CTI mates acoustic bassist Ron Carter and drummer Harvey Mason and a host of others as well as string and woodwinds sections. The fare is light, breezy, and barely there in places. Out of these sessions came "The Afterglow," which lit up the charts right after "Angela" did, making James the hottest jazz commodity on the scene. ~ Thom Jurek ONE ON ONE marks the first team up between keyboardist Bob James and guitarist Earl Klugh. Unlike the later TWO OF A KIND or COOL, this 1979 collaboration really conveys the magical connection between these two fine jazz musicians. James and Klugh each composed three of the six tracks, and the result is an extremely well blended album. ONE ON ONE really delivers. James' compositional prowess shines on the Latin-tinged "Mallorca," where Klugh is allowed to show off some of his own fancy finger-work. Drummer Harvey Mason, electric bassists Gary King and Neil Jason, and acoustic bassist Ron Carter provide notable support. James downplays the orchestral counterpart that feature so prominently on his other '70s releases. Bob James One On One Songs One On One Review

Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. One On One
$15.65 Spyro Gyra: Julio Fernandez (vocals, guitar); Jay Beckenstein (saxophone); Scott Ambush (bass instrument). Additional personnel: Don Harris (trumpet); Dave Samuels (vibraphone); Joel Rosenblatt, Billy Kilson, Ludwig Afonso (drums); Daniel Sadownick, David Charles, Cyro Baptista (percussion). With their third label release, the longtime contemporary jazz powerhouse ensemble led by fluid and funky sax legend Jay Beckenstein celebrates 30 years of a consistent mix of making instrumental pop hits and pushing the musical envelopes into fusion territory. The title promises a plunge into something deep, or at least a little stretching, and the band -- showcasing new drummer Ludwig Alfonso on a few tunes -- more than delivers. But not right away. They open smooth and light-funky with the playful, sax-driven "Summer Fling," which is breezy and fun but only digs deep with Tom Schuman's heavily retro key solo. "Eastlake Shuffle" balances Beckenstein's adventurous sax punch with a heavy blues mood driven by Schuman and the rockin' guitar harmonies and solo of Julio Fernandez. Things don't really heat up until the exotic fusion jam "Monsoon," a live show crowd-pleaser that builds from an Indian-flavored meditation (complete with distant chance and bird calls) into a moody sitar-laced melody before exploding into a powerful, blues-drenched extravaganza featuring some of Beckenstein's most powerful lines blended with Fernandez's brimming, ready-to-explode guitar on the hook. ...

| | David Dahlsten Study Your Own Heart CD (2005)
One On One
$16.45 Accomplished trombonist/pianist David Dahlsten and the jazz troupe he calls Rainbow Dancing has released a thought-provoking and invigorating collection of eight original tunes on a CD entitled Study Your Own Heart that is by turns vibrant, breezy and ethereal. David Dahlsten has spent over 40 years studying Jazz, Salsa, R&B and Classical styles and playing Trombone as a sideman with some of the greats such as Bobby Womack, Buddy Miles, Asukita and Johnny Martinez. Dahlsten started writing poetry while traveling with the Buddy Miles band in the 70’s as it made him feel good. He knew he also wanted to compose his own music so in 1996 he began studying piano with Lloyd Hebert, also a trombone player, and it opened the door for him to write not only musical lines but also chord signatures - now he had a home for his poetry. Study Your Own Heart, Dahlsten’s second CD project, has a relaxed energy that serves ...
| | U F O No Heavy Petting CD (1976) (Import) Bonus Tracks
One On One
$12.25 Remastered with 5 bonus tracks 'All Or Nothing', 'French Kisses', 'Have You Seen Me Lately Joan', 'Tonight Tonight', and 'All the Strings'.
UFO: Phil Mogg (vocals); Pete Way (bass guitar); Andy Parker (drums); Danny Peyronel, Michael Schenker. Personnel: Danny Peyronel (vocals, keyboards); Michael Schenker (guitar). Audio Mixer: Peter Mew. Audio Remasterer: Peter Mew. Recording information: Morgan Studios, London, England. Photographer: Hipgnosis [Design Group]. This reissue is what re-masters are all about. While the original master of UFO's HEAVY PETTING buried the quintet's sonic attack in a muddy mix, this one rediscovers their power and mints the band as a crucial link between early-`70s blues-based hard rock and late-`70s British heavy metal. Every track sounds exhilarating here--including the way-over-the-top electric harpsichord on "Belladonna"--and will rekindle any rock fan's love for these under-appreciated shredders. This reissue includes five previously unreleased tracks, all worth the price of admission for longtime fans. Following the breakout success of Phenomenon and Force It, UFO had finally ascended to the first division of British hard rock. And after hiring a second guitarist and keyboard player in Danny Peyronnel, Schenker and Mogg led the group back into the studio to record their fifth album, No Heavy Petting. A noticeably cautious effort, Petting stuck so close to the rules laid down by Force It that all the excitement of the band's performance wound up slipping through the cracks. Gutsy opener "Natural Thing" was competent enough to become a concert regular, but lukewarm material like "Can You Roll Her" and "Reasons Love" simply added nothing new. And bass player Pete Way didn't help things any with his only contribution, the plodding, amazingly dull "On with the Action." Even the album's best moment, the beautifully executed "I'm a Loser" (which unleashes Schenker for one of his most jaw-dropping solos ever), mimics Force It's "Out in the Street" before closing with a piano pattern straight out of progressive rockers Kansas' "No One Together." The overly dramatic "Belladonna" (complete with synthesizer-simulated harpsichord), on the ...
