Standard Screen; Soundtrack English FAMILY PLOT was Alfred Hitchcock's 54th and final film; he died on April 29, 1980. The film was Hitchcock's second biggest box office success. Once again the master has made a film that involves one of his favorite themes--doubling--with one character providing a dark counterpoint to the hero, acting out all his or her repressed, negative desires, as in SHADOW OF A DOUBT and STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. In this film, the two couples, one criminal but amiable and the other criminal but violent, provide a stark contrast with one another. The parallel couples also provide emotional counterbalance to one another as Hitchcock weaves alternating threads of humor and cruelty to create this layered story. When a rich, guilt-ridden dowager visits a psychic (Barbara Harris) for help in finding her family's long-abandoned heir, she sets off more than a search for a missing person. Unbeknownst to the lady, the psychic is a phony, and the lure of dollars sends her, along with her cabdriver husband (Bruce Dern), in hot pursuit of the lost beneficiary. Their bumbling search, however, threatens to interfere with established criminal interests, and, unknowingly, the couple's doggedness leads them into harm's way. The film was based on THE RAINBIRD PATTERN, a novel by Victor Canning. Hitchcock cameo: Hitchcock's sillhouette can be seen through the door of the office for the Registrar of Births and Deaths.
Ernest Lehmann, who wrote the script, also collaborated with Hitchcock on NORTH BY NORTHWEST.
Nicholas Colasanto, who played Constantine, went on to play the role of Coach on the hit sitcom CHEERS.
Hitchcock had a heart attack during filming; production was temporarily halted while he had a pacemaker installed.
Family Plot Quotes/Excerpts: "Without my research, you're about as psychic as a dry salami."--George Lumley (Bruce Dern) to Blanche (Barbara Harris)
"I told you about danger, didn't I? First it makes you sick, but then when you get through it, it makes you very, very loving."--Arthur Adamson (William Devane) to Fran (Karen Black)
"Isn't it touching how a perfect murder has kept our friendship alive all these years?"--Adamson to Joe Maloney (Ed Lauter)

Family Plot Movie Review One of Hitchcocks best(and last) This is by far one of Alfred Hitchcocks best movies. It shows how two different con-man teams (william Devane,Karen Black and Bruce Dern,Barbra harris) can be running separate cons, yet they entertwine and bring together these four actors to their ultimate final goals(almost).
There is a subtile intensity all the way through the movie and unless you have seen it before (as I have many times) it keeps you guessing until the final frame.
As I said before this is one of "Hitch's best and last, he suffered a heart atack during it,had a pacemaker put in and decided this was his last!
It is good clean wholsome fun with out sex,any major violence and very little profanity.(although there are a few inuendos, you might want to screen it before you let your young ones see it. Lightweight, gentle and likable caper thriller. A return to the tongue-and-cheek, pre-war Hitchcock. It is closer to "The Lady Vanashes" than to "Psycho". Of course, there's plenty of suspense and a dandy of a plot. Kidnapping, robbery, arson and murder are involved, along with a touch of larceny. Bruce Dern and Barbara Harris make an appealing pair of almost-good guys; William Devane, Karen Black and a creepy Ed Lauter are the villains. Fittingly the tensest scenes (the kidnapping of a bishop; a sequence where the hero's car goes out of control) are also the funniest. "Family Plot" is a reminder that the cinema's master of suspense was also a joker of genius. There is very little on-screen violence, but a number of events provide some spine-tingling moments. Hitch and scenarist Ernest Lehman re-teamed for the first time since "North By Northwest" and John Williams contributed a sparkling score. Not one of Hitch's best but better than most of the 70s thrillers and no apologies need be made of it. [filmfactsman] Submitted by filmfactsman (Beverly Hills, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? $7.05 Roman Polanski's stylish occult thriller ROSEMARY'S BABY is possibly the director's most famous film and was a big box-office success at the time of its 1968 release. This was Polanski's first American feature film, following his frightening 1965 REPULSION, which was made in England. The use of producer William Castle--famous for popular low-budget horror--helped propel Polanski forward into a long and rigorous career as one of the masters of the genre. The terrifying satanic story forever haunts fans of this cult film, the setting of which--Manhattan's Dakota building--carries a ghost story of its own as the location of John Lennon's assassination.
A young, happily married couple, waif-like Rosemary (Mia Farrow) and struggling actor Guy (John Cassavetes), move into a spacious apartment in a venerable old building off Central Park. They are befriended by the elderly couple next door, Roman (Sidney Blackmer) ...

$13.59 In terms of psychological power and innovative visual techniques, MARNIE ranks alongside VERTIGO and PSYCHO as one of Alfred Hitchcock's most exceptional films, though it is less well known than these classics. This thriller, based on a best-selling novel by Wilson Graham, revolves around a pathological liar and compulsive thief (Tippi Hedren) who is befriended by her latest victim, Mark Rutland (Sean Connery). The core of the story concerns a wealthy man who marries a beautiful woman who ...

| | My Date With Drew DVD (2005)
Family Plot movie DVD
$7.95 Humorous, inspiring, and surprisingly heartbreaking, this low budget ($1,100 to be exact) documentary follows Hollywood hopeful Brian Herzlinger's attempt to get a date Drew Barrymore, who he has adored since childhood. While low-level industry jobs have left Brian's bank account empty, his creative ambitions remain intact. After winning the grand prize on a pilot game show (for giving the answer "Drew Barrymore"), Brian uses the winning money, his creative friends, every possible film-world connection, and Circuit City's generous 30-day return policy on video equipment to document his against-all-odds mission in meticulous detail. Though his friends and family describe him as a great, funny guy, it is at first hard to imagine why a movie star like Drew would bother with this fumbling, self-described Average Joe. Starting off small, MY DATE WITH DREW initially offers viewers little hope that its director/star will get his sought-after date, much less result in a coherent documentary. But as the film moves along, the viewer feels the odds changing. Over time, Brian's onscreen personality starts to match the magnetic one described by his friends and family--his funny, hopeful, and genuine charm appeals to the dreamer ...
