"Solo revolutionary hip-hop artist of Else Where? Entertainment. Scholar is the middle ground between the White House and the Black Liberation movement of Garvey, Newton, X, King and many other activists, protesting through fire lyrics over scorching beats."* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Scholar: n. 1. A learned or erudite person, esp. one who has profound knowledge of a particular subject. 2. a student; pupil. 3. a student whose merit entitles him to money or other aid to pursue his studies.Witness Scholar, a student of the rap game. A student and well-trained veteran to the basic elements of hip-hop: beats, rhyming, and what we call 'emceeing.' Since the first time he picked up a microphone he has been delivering intriguing, emotional, thought provoking, fire material like no other emcee in the game, and to top off his words he is also an extremely talented producer.Read more of Scholar's bio here: www.elsewhereent.com* * * * * * * * * *Scholar can be seen performing atBar Nun - U Street. | | Hall & Oates Do What You Want Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall John Oates CDs (2009)
Producer's Testament Scholar
$38.65 It's telling that DO WHAT YOU WANT TO BE WHAT YOU ARE, Sony/Legacy's comprehensive, career-spanning Daryl Hall and John Oates box set, takes its title from a moderately successful mid-'70s single from the duo, written and recorded just as the group was hitting their creative stride. The slow Philly groove of "Do What You Want Be Who You Are" may have hearkened back to the duo's soul roots, side-stepping some of the outré pop experiments they had done just two years earlier on War Babies, but Hall & Oates took the title's sentiment to heart, blurring boundaries between rock, pop, and soul in a way that wasn't always easy to appreciate at the peak of their popularity in the '80s. During that decade, Hall & Oates were omnipresent, seemingly dominating every radio format and MTV, racking up so many hits that it was easy to overlook how "Private Eyes" wore bright, angular ...
| | Portishead Dummy CD (1994)
Producer's Testament Scholar
$11.49 Named for a town near Bristol, England, Portishead is a British dance band that grabs ideas from all over the mod pop world (spaghetti Western guitars, turntable scratching, melancholy soul vocals, atmospheric organs, house beats) and stirs them into spacey, dub-like ...
| | Aaron Neville Grand Tour CD (1993)
Producer's Testament Scholar
$7.79 Aaron Neville's performance of "Don't Take Away My Heaven" was nominated for a 1994 Grammy Award as "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male."
Aaron Neville's 1993 release THE GRAND TOUR continues a string of fine, highly polished recordings that make the most of Neville's silky tenor and New Orleans-bred soul in an adult-contemporary setting. While the slick patina of production (courtesy of Steve Lindsey) is a notable departure from Neville's rootsier early work (both solo and with the Neville Brothers), the singer's pure, lilting voice is still at the forefront here, and his falsetto flights, delicate timbre, and R&B embellishments are as affecting as ever.
What makes THE GRAND TOUR particularly interesting is the choice of material. The album sports songs by writers as diverse as Bob Dylan ("Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight"), Leonard Cohen ("Song of Bernadette"), and George Jones (the beautiful title ...

| | Kathryn Scheldt Southern Girl CD (2009)
Producer's Testament Scholar
$15.19 I first heard Kathryn Scheldt sing in a little oak-shaded chapel in Mobile, Alabama, the late autumn sun slanting through the windows, as she sang of hope and mercy and despair. There was a power in the lyrics that seemed inseparable from the strength of her voice – a rich contralto that was different from anything I had heard. This was 2005, just a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina, and in her anthem of hope that particular morning, Kathryn was wrapping the heartache we could see all around us in the sacred compassion that came with her faith. We are calling, can you hear it? • We are broken, bones and spirit? • Rain down, Mercy, help us bear it? • Shower us with love • Mercy, send a doveThat song, co-written with lyricist Anne Kent Rush of Daphne, was, for me, the most powerful song on a powerful album called Gettin’ Ready, Kathryn’s first as a solo ...
