(1 Customer Review)
Following up its successful 2005 live album with the Australian group Hillsong, fellow Christian act Delirious? unveiled THE MISSION BELL, a new collection of spiritually devoted studio tracks. Here the UK rock band offers up tunes that recall U2 (see the acoustic anthem "Stronger"), while making no qualms about its devotion to Jesus.

| | Damien Jurado Where Shall You Take Me? CD (2003)
Mission Bell music CDs
$10.15 Arriving just a year after the surprisingly eclectic and electric rock of I Break Chairs, Damien Jurado's Where Shall You Take Me? is something of a return -- but not a retreat -- to the moody minimalism of albums like Ghost of David. Songs like "Amateur Night" and "Omaha" share the acoustic strumming and rustic, shuffling rhythms of his earlier work, but also have a subtly polished confidence that brings out the warmth in Jurado's singing and playing as never before. The country and folk elements always present in his music come to the fore on "Abilene" and "Window," which, with its sweet, close harmonies, borrows equally from the traditions of bluegrass and hymns. A devotional thread runs through Where Shall You Take Me?, particularly on its second half, where "I Can't Get Over You" and "Tether" contrast love's complexities with deceptively simple melodies and arrangements. Overall, the album is less challenging than I Break Chairs, although "Texas to Ohio" recalls that work's Springsteen-influenced rock sound and the spooky, drum machine-driven "Intoxicated Hands" is a beautifully brooding ballad ...

| | King's X Ogre Tones CD (2005) Bonus Tracks; Enhanced CD
Mission Bell album
$15.05 Perhaps more than ever in their lengthy career, King's X have embraced their heavy metal roots on their 11th studio album, 2005's Ogre Tones. While the riffs are mighty and quite a few screamed vocals can be detected, the most telling sign of all is that the group enlisted renowned '80s metal producer Michael Wagener (who has worked with Accept, Metallica, Dokken, etc.) to oversee the sessions. Early in their career -- especially on albums like 1989's Gretchen Goes to Nebraska -- it appeared as though King's X were all about succinct and snappy songs. But as their career carried on, the group seemed to embrace its artier side, as new King's X releases needed several spins to fully register. This remains true with Ogre Tones. While there are a few catchy tunes -- especially the album opener, "Alone" -- for the most part, riffs 'n' ranting play a prominent role here. King's X have a lot on their mind about the current state of the world, and they certainly don't hold back -- letting it all spill out on tunes like "Freedom" and "Get ...
| | Robert Plant Nine Lives CDs (2006) With DVD; Remastered; Box Set
Mission Bell CD music
$66.59 Listening to the whole of Plant's catalogue, what impresses most is its variety and range. Beginning with 1982's PICTURES AT ELEVEN and continuing through 2005's MIGHTY REARRANGER, NINE LIVES offers up atmospheric grooves, 1950's-style pop, synth-driven new wave, Middle Eastern drones, straight blues, and a healthy dose of post-Zeppelin thunder. Plant's voice morphs too, from dispassionate popster to banshee wailer to retro crooner and elsewhere, never letting the shadow of his former band determine his stylistic choices. Beautiful packaging and a comprehensive booklet sweeten the deal, making this a must for collectors or ...
