Purchase Messiah Of Confusion CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Nile Those Whom The Gods Detest CD (2009)
Messiah Of Confusion
$12.78 It's hard to not be impressed by the sheer sonic onslaught that is otherwise known as Nile. Except to the most hardened death metal fanatic, the genre has a way of sounding the same after a while, but Nile is one of the few exceptions -- able to put their own unmistakable fingerprints on this heavy duty style (Egyptian-influenced lyrics and musical bits, highly impressive instrumental dexterity, etc.). And on their sixth studio effort overall, 2009's Those Whom the Gods Detest, Nile has ...

| | Toby Keith American Ride CD (2009)
Messiah Of Confusion
$11.99 With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every Dog Has Its Day," the sly "If I Had One," and the heavy blues stomp "Loaded" -- but spends more time on the softer side, even when he kicks up a bit of dust on the dancefloor on "You Can't Read My Mind" or does a funny, respectful salute to military life on "Ballad of Balad." In other words, the real touchstone for the rest of the record is "Tender as I Wanna Be," where he lets his guard down and lets the romance flow. This doesn't turn AMERICAN RIDE into a schizophrenic jumble, as Keith has always ...

| | Black Sabbath Master Of Reality CD (1971)
Messiah Of Confusion
$8.95 The album's opening track, "Sweet Leaf," a salute to one of the band's favorite smokeable substances, contains one of metal's heaviest guitar riffs, courtesy of Tony Iommi. Another eternal band favorite is the grim, post-nuclear war tale "Children of the Grave." Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne is in fine voice on "After Forever" and "Lord of this World," while the more tranquil "Solitude" ...
| | Takashi Hirayasu Jin Jin/Firefly CD (2000) (Import) United Kingdom
Messiah Of Confusion
$16.39 Recorded on the Okinawan island of Taketomi, Jin Jin/Firefly documents a rare encounter between Okinawan singer/sanshin player Takashi Hirayasu and acoustic guitarist Bob Brozman. Forming a duo, the two prove to be highly compatible -- and when you think about it, they're a logical combination. Hirayasu's foundation is Okinawan music, which contains both Japanese and Polynesian elements; Brozman, meanwhile, is considered a master of the Hawaiian guitar and is no stranger to the sounds of the Pacific Islands. So it isn't hard for them to find common ground on "Akata ...

| | Macy Gray Trouble With Being Myself CD (2003)
Messiah Of Confusion
$9.09 With her third album THE TROUBLE WITH BEING MYSELF, Macy Gray continues down a path whose stylistic roots spring from both the Parliament-Funkadelic and Hi Records camps. As much a storyteller as she is a singer, Gray tucks into tales of unrequited love (the lush "She Ain't Right For You"), quests for higher fulfillment (a Gamble & Huff-flavored "Jesus For a Day"), and darkly tinged reminisces of growing up (the Farfisa-pumped "My Fondest Childhood Memories.")
The unconventional singer also shines when she eases into a mellower groove, be it the tranquil aura of "Happiness" with its neat mix of acoustic guitar, children's chorus, and unobtrusive beats, or "Speechless," the kind of mid-tempo soul number sure to register favor with fans of producer Willie Mitchell's work. Other songs fitting in more with the Ohio native's quirks include an off-kilter "Every Now and Then," with its odd, Phish-like time changes, and the loping "It Ain't the Money," featuring co-writers and guest rappers/vocalists Pharoahe Monch and Beck.
International pressing of her third album features 12 tracks including the first single, 'When I See You'. Sony. 2003.
Recorded at Paramount Recording Studios, Royaltone Studios, and Ameraycan Recording Studios, Hollywood, California; O'Henry Sound Studios, Burbank, California.
Lyricist: Macy Gray.
