Sarah McLauchlan lends her voice to the always-lovely "Time After Time," Vivian Green and Ani DiFranco appear on "Sisters of Avalon," and Kelly Osbourne contributes to the classic romp "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Lauper contributes two new songs to the set, and her singing is more assured than ever, making THE BODY ACOUSTIC a sure winner for old fans and newcomers alike. The DualDisc Edition includes a DVD featuring a 20 minute film on Lauper, interviews, and live performances.
1980s pop icon Cyndi Lauper updates the sound of each of her signature songs on this 2005 collaboration-heavy release. The quality of Lauper's catalogue serves to remind listeners that she was much more than an MTV flash-in-the-pan. As the title suggests, the instrumentation is largely acoustic, yet the songs sound as energized as ever, especially cuts that provide unexpected surprises, like the Shaggy cameo on the countrified reading of "All Through the Night."

Rolling Stone (No. 987, p.132) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...[T]he ever-unusual Cyndi Lauper now sings with more power, more nuance and with more notes at her disposal than she had at her mid-Eighties popularity peak...." Entertainment Weekly (No. 849, p.68) - "...Lauper's well-equipped to join the stripped club...." - Grade; B Cyndi Lauper The Body Acoustic Songs The Body Acoustic Review

The Body Acoustic music CDs
$13.29 While the name Israel Kamakawiwo'ole falls trippingly off few tongues, the Hawaiian singer better known as "Iz" was one of the biggest stars in his home state. Iz first came to public attention as a member of the popular Hawaiian group known as the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. His subsequent solo career brought even greater fame, and countless fans were saddened at his untimely death in 1997. Those who mourn his passing will be gladdened by the posthumous release of ALONE IN IZ WORLD, compiled from various recording session ...
| | Gillian Welch Soul Journey CD (2003)
The Body Acoustic songs
$10.45 SOUL JOURNEY, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2001 outing TIME (THE REVELATOR), finds Gillian Welch and creative partner David Rawlings getting creatively looser and enlisting the aid of a back-up band. The decision to flesh out the sound beyond the duo format (as had been the case on the past couple of albums), ends up being a successful one. The result is a blend of traditional songs such as "Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor" with self-penned cuts like the haunting "One Monkey" and the cantering "Lowlands." The languid aura infusing most of these 10 songs gets blown away with "Wrecking Ball," a meaty-sounding original tune that not only borrows its title from a Neil Young song, but ...

The Body Acoustic songs
$12.15 One thing about most hair metal bands of the '80s -- they were not necessarily known to be "proficient" at their respective instruments. But one such group from the genre that certainly had the chops to back up their pretty boy looks was Europe, which prove this theory once again on their 2008 live CD, Almost Unplugged (which was issued as a DVD a year later). Recorded at a venue in Stockholm (called Nalen) on January 26, 2008, Almost Unplugged sees the group joined by a string quartet as they balance originals with a few classic rock nuggets, including Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here," Thin Lizzy's "Suicide," and UFO's "Love to Love," among others, as well as a still-bombastic rendition of "The Final Countdown." Surprisingly, there is no rendition of their power ballad, "Carrie," included here, which you'd think would have fit in well with all the other stripped-down tunes here -- especially when overbearing cheese such as the song "Hero" is included (although admittedly, the song's meaning is heartfelt -- it's a tribute to the late, great Phil Lynott). The histrionics may be toned down a tad here, but Almost Unplugged serves as further proof that Europe remain arena rock kings throughout...Europe. ~ Greg Prato
Europe's singer Joey Tempest: In Stockholm in January 2008 we added a very special concert to our Secret Society tour. We had long talked about doing a 'one off' gig with a string quartet in a more intimate setting. We had also talked about adding songs from artists we admire to our own set-list. After some debating we settled ...
