(1 Customer Review)
Yeah, everyone knows Mungo Jerry's one big international hit "In the Summertime," although no one really listens to the words, which are, well, opportunistic and far from innocent, and it's one of those songs whose meaning, although clearly stated, zips by unheard thanks to the fun, joyous bounce of the melody and rhythm. But there was way more to Mungo Jerry than that one song, timeless as it has turned out to be. This set features some of Mungo Jerry's key tracks during their mid-'70s run with Dawn Records, a subsidiary of Pye Records. "In the Summertime" is here, along with the chugging, stomping "Baby Jump," the brilliant and Marc Bolan-like "She Rowed," and the wry rockers "Mighty Man" and "Open Up," among others, and although far from complete, this set shows clearly that Mungo Jerry was far from a one-hit wonder. ~ Steve Leggett
Greatest hits collection from the hugely successful 70s pop rock jug band. Includes their two chart toppers "In The Summertime" and "Baby Jump". In The Summertime Music Review Purchase In The Summertime CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Cari Lee & The Contenders Scorched CD (2005)

In The Summertime songs
$12.85 After the expansive The Book of Spectral Projections and Supernatural Equinox, Outrageous Cherry offer a lean, distilled version of their psych-pop on Our Love Will Change the World. Though the band can trip the psych fantastic just as ably as any band on -- or influenced by -- the Nuggets collections, Matthew Smith is a pop craftsman par excellence, and this album plays to his strengths: memorable melodies, clever hooks, and witty, thought-provoking lyrics. Though the hazy, sunlit beauty of "The Unchanging Frequency" and "You're a Reflection of Infinite Chaos"' fuzzed-out chug show that the band haven't forsaken their trippy side, this part of their sound plays a supporting role on flawless pop songs such as the punchy, sharp-edged "Unless." And while Outrageous Cherry is one of a handful of groups drawing on '60s inspirations that makes music that is usually more fun to actually listen to -- instead of just play dissect-the-influences with -- charting the exact amount of Petula Clark brassiness and Velvet Underground cool in "Pretty Girls Go Insane" is still good for a few music-snob kicks. Despite the album's wide-eyed title, Our Love Will Change the World is actually fairly moody, with Smith and company taking difficult girlfriends ("[You're Not] A Nice Girl" and "Trouble Girl," one of Smith's best songs in this vein since "Pale Frail Lovely One") and the fake and trendy ("What Have ...

$10.39 "Have you ever smelled love? Smells like wet metal on a bed of honey. Smells like sex in a zipped-up tent. Smells like chocolate. And what does love sound like? Sounds like Prototokyo. When I first heard these bards â over at some optimistic sake-hop in Okinawa G â I thought: 'I guess music donât ever end.' Their sound is unique, tender, flirtatious. Itâs the ultimate soul-mash-up and get this: It comes from the future. Yes, thatâs right. Prototokyoâs from a time period when ...

In The Summertime album
$17.75 Created as a way to preserve and respect the great music of the British Blues Boom era of the Sixties, Mark Doyle & The Maniacs is the brainchild of guitarist/producer Mark Doyle. Signed to RCA in the early â70s with his first band, Jukinâ Bone (who played their own brand of fiery, Anglophilic blues rock), Mark has gone on to record and tour with artists as varied as Meat Loaf, Bryan Adams, Judy Collins, Leo Sayer, and Hall & Oates. A visit to the Discography page on his website details the 65 albums that Mark has been involved in.In describing the impetus for making the record, Mark explains: âOld heroes die hard, and these were mine back when I was a teenager and first started playing the electric guitar. Iâm sure Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Kim Simmonds had their own heroes â âauthenticâ blues men like B. B., Albert, and Freddie King, Otis Rush, Hubert Sumlin and Buddy Guy, but I did not yet know of them, and only discovered them translated and morphed through the brilliant playing of those four English kids.âNone of this would mean anything without a killer, hand-picked band to lay the music down âjust as those guys had to do it: live in the studio.â In describing his âposse of energetic, passionate and similarly reverent bandmatesâ, Doyle says:âI couldnât have surrounded myself with a better band. Jack âPenetratorâ Lipton handles the punk snarl of those âgarage bluesâ days better than anybody I know; Terry Quill rose to the occasion when I called him and asked him to dust off his old harps, that I was looking for Brian Jones and Keith Relf rather than Paul Butterfield. Less of a surprise is Terryâs always great guitar playing (heâs in the right speaker, plays the second solos on #7 & 8, and does all the wah and slide stuff.) Michael P. Ryan shares the lead vocals with Jack, and plays excellent bass throughout. ...
