Patio Rincon Y Tangos album
$12.09 The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face, and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate, forceful, crystalline; it's in-your-face compelling and impossible to ignore. 11:11 features 11 new compositions, dedicated to 11 musical artists (not all guitarists, either) who have had an influence on the duo. Recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico, the set was self-produced with the exception of two cuts, which were co-produced with John Leckie. Throughout, Rodrigo y Gabriela showcase their metal chops as part and parcel of their Mexican guitar heritage. They've not simply melded the two, ...
| | Ghana Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-Sounds & Ghanaian Blue 1968-81 CDs (2009)
Patio Rincon Y Tangos CD music
$20.44 The U.K. label Soundway Records has vaulted itself to the head of the pack within the narrow field of African anthologies. They specialize in hard '60s and '70s funk, disco, and rock from West Africa, as heard on their Nigeria Special series as well as the earlier AFRO BABY and GHANA SOUNDZ sets, not to mention a disc devoted to the best-of Nigerian singer-guitarist Sir Victor Uwaifo. This volume, a two-CD set of funk and rock from Ghana all recorded between the late '60s and early '80s, is a churning sea of polyrhythms, chanted vocals, thick, distorted organ sounds, blaring horns, and scorching guitar that are equal parts James Brown and No Wave. A few songs ("Them Go Talk Of You," "I Go Die for You," "You Monopolize Me," "You Can Go") are sung in English, but most of the others will ...

Patio Rincon Y Tangos music CDs
$15.19 Taken from two concerts performed during a creative yet fraught year that would end in the band's being put on indefinite hiatus by a frustrated Robert Fripp, this double CD set contains a wealth of improvisatory magic from one of the progressive band's most storied lineups, including the seminal "21st Century Schizoid Man" and the graceful, soaring "Exiles."

$9.59 Norman Rose grew up in a small Texas town, and has lived on both coasts of the U.S. Having lived on prairie, near seashore, in desert and in large city, he has soaked up the landscapes and moods of his travels. But more importantly, he has developed a rich inner life that reflects in his music.Norman trained in piano and organ during his youth. Later, he jumped into the digital world of synthesizer music, where he could unlock potentials for choices in instrument, rhythm, and emotion. He now resides in northern California, composing with a rich array of authentic and synthesized sounds. This ...
| | Benny Goodman Yale University Archives Vol. 2: 1957-1964 CDs (2009) (Import)
Patio Rincon Y Tangos album
$14.89 This satisfying two-disc set contains 34 tracks worth of latter-day Benny Goodman recordings. Although swing, the movement for which Goodman was once the poster boy, was long out of the fashion by the late 1950s and early `60s (the period from which these recordings were taken), the clarinetist and bandleader plays with the same verve as he did in his heyday. Classics like "'Deed I Do," "A Fine Romance," and "Pennies from Heaven" pepper this excellent compilation of classic big band music.
Personnel: Benny Goodman (clarinet); Ethel Ennis, Jimmy Rushing (vocals); Benny Jr. Garcia, Steven "Steven J." Jordan, Kenny Burrell, Turk VanLake, Billy Bauer (guitar); Jimmy Santucci, Herb Geller, Herbie Steward, Ernie Mauro, Jerry Dodgion, Al Block, Phil Woods, Walter Levinsky, Skeets Herfurt (alto saxophone); Bob Hardaway, Teddy Edwards Octet, Seldon Powell, Babe Clarke, Tommy Newsom, Bob Wilber, Billy Slapin, Budd Johnson (tenor saxophone); Pepper Adams (baritone saxophone); Fern Caron, Allen J.M.
