High quality small-group jazz from the Texas-born guitarist Herb Ellis, accompanied here by a stellar band that includes the pianist Oscar Peterson, the saxophonist Jimmy Giuffre, and trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison. Ellis concocts a heady swirl of bebop and blues in a set that blends a majority of originals with a couple of standards, Rodgers and Hart's "Have You Met Miss Jones," and George Gershwin's "Somebody Loves Me."
Personnel: Herb Ellis (guitar); Charlie Mariano (alto saxophone); Jimmy Giuffre (tenor saxophone); Harry "Sweets" Edison (trumpet); Oscar Peterson (piano); Ray Brown (double bass); Alvin Stoller (drums).

Ellis In Wonderland album
$8.69 Gerry Mulligan's 1959 studio date with Johnny Hodges is one of the most satisfying sessions of his various meetings with different saxophonists for Verve, yet it was inexplicably the last to be made available on CD. With a hand-picked rhythm section consisting of pianist Claude Williamson, bassist Buddy Clark, and drummer Mel Lewis, and three originals contributed by each of the two leaders, everything gels nicely, though several tracks took more than three takes (in spite of liner note writer Nat Hentoff's assertions) to reach their final form. Mulligan contributed the gorgeous ballad "What's the Rush" (where he sat back to enjoy Hodges' solo and never plays his own ...
| | Harry "Sweets" Edison Sweets CD (1956) Reissue; Remastered; Digipak
Ellis In Wonderland CD music
$9.55 Neither an innovator nor an iconoclast, trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison is simply one of the bluesiest, hardest-swinging, and downright tastiest jazz musicians of the 20th century. A consummate sideman who worked steadily throughout his career (even getting gigs recording soundtracks in the '50s), Edison created music that always reflected his journeyman aesthetic and unerring sense of swing. Recorded in 1956, Sweets is one of the quintessential Edison albums showcasing the former Count Basie bandmember at ...

A sultry, soothing voice, connecting with melody and a lyrical content of depth and truth, introduce the listener to more than just an artist with a passion for music. Her journey of life’s encounters has become the inspiration for this welcome addition to the genre of singer/songwriter albums that have graced the platform of the recording industry. Born and raised in Modesto, California, Deb discovered early in life her God given talent and love for music. Singing and playing piano for Church choirs, weddings, parties and for anyone who would listen, eventually led to her recording a Gospel record in the mid 1980’s. In 1995, Deb moved to Nashville to further pursue her career and became part of the singing trio, Savanna.
