| | Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition CD (7 Customer Reviews)
Before Nirvana came along in the early 1990s and effectively vanquished pop-friendly metal, the bands on MONSTER BALLADS ruled the airwaves. While most of the acts on this compilation were very much at home playing glammed-out rock & roll, these leather-clad, bouffanted rockers all found that getting in touch with their sensitive sides could prove equally lucrative. Among the many guilty pleasures on the disc are Skid Row's dramatic "I Remember You," Whitesnake's wistful "Is This Love," Extreme's acoustic anthem "More Than Words," and, of course, Poison's pensive classic, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Get ready to raise those lighters high. Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition Music Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition Songs | 1. | I Remember You - Skid Row |

THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION, though not as thorough as the excellent two-disc set GOLD (released a year prior), is a handy overview of the Commodores' career, beginning with 1974's "Machine Gun" and concluding with 1985's "Nightshift." The only Top Ten R&B hits not included here are "Sail On," and a couple of later '80s cuts, so all the big funk jams ("Too Hot ta Trot," "Brick House," "Lady [You Bring Me Up],") and ballads ("Zoom," "Easy," "Three Times a Lady") are indeed included. This set also scores a little extra by including one ...

Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition songs
$10.39 This includes three untitled hidden tracks following "L.A. Arteest Cafe".
From its stark cover painting to the introspective lyrics and acoustical setting, Stew has boiled down all of the musical ingredients incurred from his solo discs and outings with the Negro Problem to leave his most intensely flavored and personal collection yet. Melodic meditations on love, loss, happiness, and regret fill the disc, creating what feels like a musical self-portrait painted by Stew in an attempt to show you Something Deeper Than These Changes. Looking past the beautifully colored lines of pop melody, Stew's lyrics provide a dense, solid base that enhances the music with more depth than on previous discs. Setting the tone is the quietly affecting "Love Like That," in which Stew reflects on the love people receive, almost unknowingly, in their rebellious youth that is appreciate in later years as "loves taken for granite/when you don't understand it/since it came so easily/must be free." Later in the disc he views love from the parent's perspective in the sweet folk setting of "The Sun I Always Wanted," as a child's birthday means ...
