WILLOW HALE has been playing guitar and singing folksongs since she was 13 years old in Gulfport, Mississippi. She entered a talent contest at that time and won first place, singing BANKS OF THE OHIO. She wrote her first song REDBIRD when she was 19 and from then on played her own songs as well as old folk, blues, jazz and some country in the Bay Area near San Francisco, including THE BOARDING HOUSE and FREIGHT AND SALVAGE in Berkeley. In New York, WILLOW opened for DAVE VAN RONK at THE OTHER END (THE BITTER END), for the ORIGINAL DRIFTING COWBOYS (HANK WILLIAMS' BAND) at THE LONE STAR, and JOHN FAHEY at FOLK CITY. Playing and singing with jazz groups she also played and has live recordings at THE WEST BANK CAFÉ, THE WEST END, RENO SWEENEY'S, JP'S, TRAX and GREAT GUILDERSLEEVES. At 24 she was signed with WARNER/REPRISE RECORDS in London and in New York, she recorded with LITTLE SILVER RECORDS (Red Bank, New Jersey) covering EMMY LOU HARRIS' hit HICKORY WIND (GRAM PARSONS) and her own songs HAMMER IN MY HEART and MAKE LOVE TO ME. In 1982, her first song was published by DEVON PUBLISHING (THE RICHMOND ORGANIZATION) which was placed with EMMY LOU HARRIS and led to her long association with BMI and her own publishing company ALI MAC MUSIC. WILLOW was asked by WILFORD LEACH AND JOSEPH PAPP, participated in, and was paid for a 10 minute musical called HUNGRY STREET, a rock and roll runners' love story for the NEW YORK SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL/PUBLIC THEATRE. In 1979 in New York City, ROBERT ARMIN, now a theatre director and playwright, recorded 13 of her songs which he is now making available for the first time in the CD, A SIMPLE STRING OF WONDER. In the past year, Willow has performed at BB KING'S BLUES CLUB in Universal City, CA, BEAN TOWN ESPRESSO BAR in Sierra Madre, CA, and has made multiple appearances at THE COFFEE GALLERY BACKSTAGE in Altadena, CA. | | Entrance / Edgar Winter's White Trash CDs (2005) (Import) United Kingdom
Simple String Of Wonder
$21.05 This double-disc BGO set contains completely remastered versions of the first two Edgar Winter albums issued on the Epic label. Entrance was released on LP in 1970 and contains two completely different thematic sides -- as the LP was divided, Winter's Dream and Tobacco Road. Of the 11 cuts here, three were written by Winter while eight were co-written with guitar-slinging brother Johnny (who plays harmonica on the set). The stunning thing is how many different kinds of music are here. "Entrance" and "Rise to Fall" feel more like a Todd Rundgren songs with their elegantly and elaborately styled piano-based compositions and Winter's voice. Jazz, rock, pop, classical, and R&B permeate the tunes on the first side, whereas harder-edged blues-based tunes are articulated where Tobacco Road begins (with Johnny on guitar) and spins almost out of control. The latter record, monikered White Trash, the namesake of Edgar's band at the time, sports a much bigger band and a much rougher, rawer sound. Winter added an entire horn section and shared lead vocals with Jerry Lacroix. Again Johnny guests as does Johnny's new guitarist, Rick Derringer (who also produced). The groove on this record comes right out of Sly & the Family Stone, complete with overloaded funky bass and punched-up funky horn charts, but there's ...

| | Peter Dello Into Your Ears CD (1971) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Germany
Simple String Of Wonder
$18.49 The '60s spawned so many psychedelic bands that the reissue has become its own genre. Audiophiles flock to conventions worldwide to pay exorbitant amounts of money for obscurities that your average music fan would recoil at. This passion has unearthed horrible artifacts, intriguing oddities, and the occasional gem. After tasting success in 1968 with the single "I Can't Let Maggie Go," Honeybus founder Pete Dello left the band after only one album to pursue a more settled lifestyle. His distaste for the rigors of touring left him with a surplus of un-recorded material that would eventually steer him back into the studio to record his first and only solo record. Into Your Ears features 14 songs, each under three-and-a-half minutes long, that prosper through a winning combination of goofy psychedelia and Beatlesque beauty. The sweet melodies and gentle harmonies of "It's What You've Got" and "Taking The Heart Out Of Love" are timeless, devoid of irony, and begging for placement in a Wes Anderson ...
