| | Cracker Greatest Hits: Redux CD Cracker Discography of CDs
As the chief creative force behind Camper Van Beethoven, one of the most fun and inventive indie rock bands of the 1980s, David Lowry had plenty of cred under his belt when he formed Cracker in 1990. Lowry focused the punk-folk-country-rock sound of Camper into a more mainstream-friendly package, and the mainstream responded in kind by making hits of Cracker songs like "Low," "Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)," and "Euro-Trash Girl" (all of which are included here).
Fans looking for a Cracker hits compilation may be confused by the appearance of two sets on two different labels. While Virgin's GET ON WITH IT: THE BEST OF CRACKER features the original studio versions of the band's singles and favorites, REDUX, on the Cooking Vinyl label, features versions of many of the same songs re-recorded specifically for this set. The different versions should be of interest to Cracker devotees, while either set should satisfy the casual listener.

| | Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning CD (2005)
Greatest Hits: Redux songs
$10.79 In early 2005, young indie icon Conor Oberst (AKA Bright Eyes) unveiled two full-length albums--I'M WIDE AWAKE, IT'S MORNING and DIGITAL ASH IN A DIGITAL URN. Whereas the latter proved to be a departure into electronic music, the former sticks to Oberst's established sound, which combines the urgency and heart-on-the-sleeve sentiment of emo-rock with twangy, down-home feel of alt-country and ...

Greatest Hits: Redux CD music
$13.69 The kids from Philly continue their widescreen explorations into the street characters and urban landscapes they have been moving toward during their past three albums. Self-recording with their own funds and without major-label input hasn't cheapened the group's approach. In fact, this is arguably their best-sounding disc, with instruments reverberating in multiple overdubs and frontman/lyricist David Bielanko's aching vocals -- somewhat like the Del Fuegos' Dan Zanes -- as clear, soulful, and potent as if he's in the room with you. Theirs is the shimmering, noir world of outsiders, junkies, loners, and doomed lovers that Bruce Springsteen (who guested on their last release) so effectively portrays. But on this gritty album ...

| | Timothy Riordan Pick Me Up CD (2007)
Greatest Hits: Redux album
$12.69 Timothy Riordan is a storyteller. His music has been influenced by Tom Waits, Peter Mulvey, Jeffrey Foucault, Gillian Welch and Elvis Costello. His songs are landscapes of human stories. His characters find themselves trying hard and struggling harder, making them like many people you know. Tim started playing guitar during his first year of college. While Pearl Jam and Green Day echoed through the halls of his dormitory, he practiced quietly on a $100 acoustic given to him by his parents. He spent his four years of higher education traveling from creative writing class to writing critique rarely able to finish a short story while convinced he would someday become a novelist. It was only after he graduated that he figured out his knack for writing one page vignettes might be useful if only he could manage to rhyme the prose. It was hearing the “This is Boston Not Austin” compilation that defined Timothy’s path as a songwriter. He started performing in the subways and frequenting the legendary Club Passim Open Mike following in the footsteps of his heroes. He founded the Chaise Lounge Lovers, a songwriting critique ...
