Re-Birth album
$17.57 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with ...
| | Stryper Murder By Pride CD (2009)
Re-Birth CD music
$10.65 After the original Stryper lineup (minus bassist Tim Gaines) reunited for 2005's somewhat alternative/nu-metal tinged REBORN, the band made a stylistic return to form with MURDER BY PRIDE. Brimming with harmonized twin guitar leads, big hair metal-approved shout-along hooks, and Michael Sweet's trademark ...
| | Atreyu Congregation Of The Damned CD (2009)
Re-Birth music CDs
$11.65 On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have come to expect from the band. All of the familiar elements are in place, with the alternating screaming/soaring vocals, thundering double bass drumming, and big, crunchy riffage. The difference here is that the band seems to have mellowed out a bit, opting for a more melodic approach. Like their last album, the songs here feel somewhat restrained, like they're just dying to break free of the polished production. The intensity of SUICIDE NOTES and BUTTERFLY KISSES seems to have been put out to pasture, with the songs feeling more deliberately poppy.
On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have ...

| | Welcome To Little Milton CD (1999)
Re-Birth music CDs
$14.19 WELCOME TO LITTLE MILTON was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
For his last album of the 20th century, soul/blues legend Little Milton gathered together a bunch of friends and admirers to cut 11 songs in a spirited meeting of old and new generations not heard since John Lee Hooker recorded THE HEALER 10 years prior.
In his more than 50 years in the music industry, Little Milton has earned accolades for his singing, but unfortunately his tasty guitar playing has often gotten overlooked. WELCOME rectifies this situation as Milton takes the lead on the Susan Tedeschi duet "Mother Earth," gets heavy with Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule on "I Can't Quit You Baby," and trades licks with G. Love on the percolating "Me and My Woman." Milton's ubiquitous influence on contemporary blues also becomes apparent, particularly on "Right to Sing the Blues," where he easily shows that O.V. Wright wasn't the only R&B artist to influence Robert Cray's soul-blues style. Throughout WELCOME, Milton shows off his remarkable range. He's equally at home crooning with Lucinda Williams on the Bouldeaux Bryant ballad "Love Hurts," funking it up with Keb' Mo' on "Gimmie My Broom," or trading barbs with Peter Wolf on his "Two Loves."

| | Brigitte Bardot Best Of Bardot CD (2005)
Re-Birth music CDs
$11.45 Was Brigitte Bardot a "good" singer, in the conventional sense? No. Was the material she sang in the 1960s especially deep or brilliant? No. But is this 19-track compilation of the cream of her 1963-1970 recordings a fun listen? Yes indeed. Although not the owner of conventional high-level vocal skills, Bardot invested her frivolous songs with a contagious sense of playful fun, and a refusal to take the music or herself too seriously. Certainly some of the tunes -- and their breathy delivery -- capitalize on her iconic sex kitten persona. But the guileless joy she projects is reminiscent of some of the early work by France Gall (one of the finest '60s French pop singers), though Bardot's voice is less girlish and more adult in tone. Like the better French pop of the 1960s, the tracks on this disc -- an "extremely selective compilation," the liner notes state, of a '60s discography that strung together "fine pearls and cheap imitations, scintillating ...
