| | Waterclime Astral Factor CD Waterclime Discography of CDs
The Astral Factor is the stunning new album from Waterclime, a new project led by Vintersorg main man Mr V. Combining the very best elements of traditional progressive and symphonic rock filtered through a Nordic mind with Scandinavian folk tones and at times a jazzy ambient atmosphere. The Astral Factor yields a highly individualistic sound that will appeal to a wide cross section of rock fans. The music of The Astral Factor comes together with a subliminal and spiritual feel and mixes several genres with many different musical elements. The strong melodies displayed consist of long sequences twisting and turning between major and minor scales. The symphonic approach of the album is quite exposed using strings, bells and other orchestral instruments taking it into this arena. This is mixed up with the diversity of organ, mellotron and flutes. Waterclime’s The Astral Factor is an eclectic and original work of musical art that will reward those that allow its music into their mind. Progressive

Astral Factor album
$8.55 There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd.
Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic...simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock groups. In Absentia is their eagerly anticipated Lava Records debut. Digipak. 2002.
Recorded at Avatar Studio, New York, New York between March & April 2002.
Porcupine Tree: Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, Gavin ...
| | Stratovarius Elements PT. 2 CD (2003)
Astral Factor CD music
$10.45 Scandinavian prog-power-metal specialists Stratovarius begin their sequel to 2002's Elements, Pt. 1 with a neo-classical dirge called "Alpha and Omega," which showcases their melodic muscle and top-notch playing. Musically, the group are masters of fantasy-metal excess, but bereft of the Dungeons & Dragons hyperbole employed by similar artists. The series as a whole draws from blueprints laid out by Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys series, borrowing liberally from their nursery rhyme choruses, ferocious double-basslines, and operatic vocals -- lead singer Timo Kotipelto channels Helloween crooner Michael Kiske throughout -- without the thematic focus. There are some inspired moments -- the brutal "Awaken the Giant" -- and anthems like "Season's of Faith's Perfection," and the soaring "Liberty," succeed with bombast and Queensr˙che-like melodrama. Elements, Pt. 2 may disappoint some fans with its lack of epics and torch-heavy balladry, but there's a strange ...
| | Gathering Sleepy Buildings - A Semi Acoustic Evening CD (2004)
Astral Factor music CDs
$8.99 Sleepy Buildings will serve to fuel the dichotomy amongst the Gathering's fans: those who appreciate the increasingly ambient and subtle direction in which the Dutch outfit moved with If_Then_Else and Souvenirs, and detractors who believe the band peaked with the doomy, metallic, and melodic strains of Mandylion and Nighttime Birds. So this collection, recorded live at the LUX Theatre in Nijmegen, Holland, reinterprets older songs -- three of them, "The Mirror Waters," "Stonegarden," and "Like Fountains" reaching as far back as Always and Almost a Dance, released prior to siren singer Anneke van Giersbergen's recruitment -- minus electric guitars and ...
| | Megadeth System Has Failed CD (2004) Enhanced CD
Astral Factor songs
$11.49 For 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED, vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine reunites Megadeth--original guitarist Chris Poland, along with new members, bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta--for the band's first new studio album in three years. Frontman/songwriter Mustaine has a lot on his mind, as he ruminates on many of the political and social ills troubling the world, and his words are delivered over grooves and riffs reminiscent of mid-period Megadeth (circa COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION). The overall sound is fresh and energetic, and Mustaine conjures memorable licks, particularly when he trades blazing solos with Poland, as on "Die Dead Enough" and the ...
| | Moonsorrow Chapter V: Ravaged CD (2007) (Import) England; United Kingdom
Astral Factor album
$30.55 Never ones to shy away from marathon-length compositions, Finland's Moonsorrow really decided to tempt the gods of progressive rock excess with their fifth ambitious marriage of extreme metal and folk music, Chapter V: Ravaged, which is made up of just two mega-movements! As if this weren't challenging enough for most listeners (and typically of Moonsorrow) the entire, vast undertaking is alternately sung, screamed, or screeched entirely in Finnish -- one of this planet's rarest languages, typologically speaking. Thankfully, heavy metal fans are innately used to adversity, and, like so many adventure-starved Hobbits, are absolute suckers when it comes to embarking upon Tolkien-esque quests such as these. So saddle up your ponies, tuck away that ring of power where no wraith can see it, and get your furry feet on the road: before you is an epic journey. Chapter V's 30-minute first half, "Jäästä Syntynyt/Varjojen Virta," translates into "Born of Ice/Stream of Shadows" and begins via melancholy guitar melodies set to a backdrop of rumbling glacial activity. These gradually gain in layered complexity and metallic heaviness, exploring ...
| | Manticora Black Circus, PT. 1: Letters CD (2006) Part One
Astral Factor CD music
$13.99 As more and more American metal acts take center stage, from Lamb of God and Intronaut to Mastodon and the regrouping of the original Slayer, it's easy to forget the contributions made by the European acts that owned the 1990s and early part of the 21st century. On American shores, Danish metal band Manticora are underground. They shouldn't be; perhaps it's because of the conceptual nature of their material -- concept albums have become a staple with them and this is their third in five releases -- or their willfully over ...

| | Cradle Of Filth Damnation And A Day CD (2003) Bonus Track; Japan
Astral Factor album
$36.09 In the beginning there was metal and it was heavy. In the mid-'80s an underground sub-genre made a name for itself based as much on satanic imagery as on extreme music, with bands like Bathory and Mayhem. Enter England's Cradle of Filth, who took black metal to new heights in the '90s. DAMNATION AND A DAY finds the band at the artistic pinnacle of its controversial career, with the unprecedented-for-the-genre support of Sony firmly behind them.
Forged with fire and brimstone, DAMNATION tells the biblical tale of temptation ("Serpent Tongue") and the revenge of outcasts ("Carrion"), a theme present in many Cradle albums, be the subjects cast out of society or heaven. Dani Filth's multifaceted whisper-to-a-scream vocals are operatic in scope ...
