(2 Customer Reviews)
After Mountain split up in 1972, it sporadically reunited in one form or another, even after bassist Felix Pappalardi's death in the early '80s. The first such reunion took place less than a year after its first split, resulting in a new studio album, AVALANCHE, and a live set, TWIN PEAKS.
Issued in 1974, TWIN PEAKS finds Pappalardi and guitarist Leslie West joined by new drummer Allan Schwartzberg as they bash and wail their way through nine songs. This was the era of jamming, in which Mountain indulged mightily, as evidenced here by a 33-minute, two-part reading of "Nantucket Sleighride." Also featured are high octane versions of "Never in My Life," "Crossroader," "Mississippi Queen," and "Roll Over Beethoven."

Mountain: Leslie West (vocals, guitar); Felix Pappalardi (vocals, bass); Bob Mann (guitar, keyboards); Alan Schwartzberg (drums). Twin Peaks Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) I forgot how good this is I owned this album on vinyl, back in the day, and played it so much the grooves were worn smooth. Fast forward to 2009: I just played the remastered CD copy, and am simply blown away. This is serious guitar-based hard rock, boys and girls, and everything clicks. The jackhammer drumming, the crushing bass, and best of all, the sonic delights of Leslie West's guitar work make this a monumental set for rock fans. A special "don't miss" is 31 minutes worth of "Nantucket Sleighride." Buy this, and PLAY IT LOUD! Submitted by Racewaybob (indy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Twin Peaks album
$6.55 This 1995 reissue of THE WHO SELL OUT includes songs and jingles not available on the original version.
Originally released on Track (612002/613002). Released in the U.S. on Decca (4950/74950) in 1968.
Only three albums into its recording career, the Who had already begun to distance itself from its proletarian R&B beginnings. Here, songwriter Pete Townshend follows up on the rock-opera idea he had introduced on A QUICK ONE with the extended, multi-part composition "Rael" and would later expand upon with TOMMY. The band had also begun exploring the form of the concept album. The songs are connected by bits of fake radio commercials and brass fanfares, and there's a little of everything thrown into the mix. All-out rockers like the vengeful "I Can See For Miles" vie for the listener's attention with the romantic ...

| | Donovan Barabajagal CD (1969) (Import) England; Remastered; United Kingdom
Twin Peaks songs
$10.49 Donovan's last truly great album of the 1960s, 1968's BARABAJAGAL shows interesting artistic growth at least as marked as his transformation from folk troubadour to daffy hippie-pop guru. The title track and "Trudi" feature the Rod Stewart-era Jeff Beck Group as Donovan's backing band; consequently both these songs have a surprising amount of sonic heft to them.
Of course, Donovan is pretty much incapable of getting heavy, but the hard-candy pop suits him well. A version of Terry Reid's marijuana/fellatio multiple-entendre "Superlungs My Supergirl" is similarly rockin', but for most of the rest of the album, Donovan reverts to his usual folkish psych-pop. The hit "Atlantis," the Cat Stevens-like "I Love My Shirt" and the ...

| | Armageddon CD (1975) (Import) Remastered; Digipak; Germany
Twin Peaks CD music
$18.39 Cynics who perceive many super-groups as nothing more than bloated extrapolations of, at times, perfectly mundane musical components, can back up their assumptions with Armageddon's eponymous debut from 1975. The first and final spawn of the would-be-super-group featuring former Yardbird vocalist Keith Relf, erstwhile Captain Beyond drummer Bobby Caldwell, ex-Steamhammer guitarist Martin Pugh, and Relf's Renaissance partner, bassist Louis Cennamo, the album contains a meager five tracks -- four of which extend beyond the eight-minute barrier due to bouts of arguably unnecessary, self-indulgent waffling. On the other hand, this was the '70s, people, and of course this sort of excess was par for the course, back then. What's more, these same dubious qualities actually contributed to the album's eventual adoption as a precursor to the stoner rock movement by dope fiends everywhere, most of whom rarely ...
| | Shout On: Leadbelly Legacy Vol. 3 CD (1998)
Twin Peaks music CDs
$13.49 Volume 3 of a 3-volume set of the classic Smithsonian Folkways Archive recordings from the 1940's, SHOUT ON is indispensable Leadbelly. Remastered from the original source material, this collection includes unreleased tracks, bibliographies, discographies and liner notes with extensive annotations and remarks by Pete Seeger. The range of emotion and tone Leadbelly displays on these tracks is notable: unmistakable tenderness on "Little Children's Blues," seductive crooning on "Come Sit Down Beside Me," sheer manic energy on "John Henry."
The album also includes topically relevant songs about the Second World War (including "National ...
| | Smells Like Bleach: A Punk Tribute To Nirvana CD (2000)
Twin Peaks songs
$13.95 It's appropriate that the first ever Nirvana tribute album was recorded by a collection of punk bands whose combined record sales probably don't equal that of In Utero. After all, Nirvana's influences were largely D.I.Y., and the band always seemed to have a great deal more in common with Flipper than Pearl Jam. Smells Like Bleach succeeds in putting a straight-ahead punk spin on Nirvana's often more deliberate style of hardcore. Although, this album is not simply a Nirvana mix played in double time (even though most of the solos are sped up and improvised on) as one might expect. Songs like "Negative Creep" and "Scentless Apprentice" are actually played more slowly than the originals. Highlights are the hits "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which takes an instant turn from Boston to Green Day via Blanks 77 and immediately has you expecting a "Let's Go!" instead of an emotive silence, and "All Apologies," which is taken from near ballad in ...

$15.55 This album features much of the same band that performs on the wonderful EUROPEAN TOUR 1977. This is a varied set of Carla Bley's pieces, full of musical wit, warmth and invention.
