| | Dick Conte Slow Hot Wind CD Dick Conte Discography of CDs
The music is strictly straight-ahead on Slow Hot Wind, which features a fine quartet of musicians based in Northern California. Steve Heckman takes quite a few excellent tenor and flute solos in addition to contributing "I Remember Zoot." Pianist Dick Conte, well known in the area as a popular disc jockey, is a top-notch pianist while bassist Steve Weber and drummer Bill Moody keep the music swinging. The only fault to this highly enjoyable set, which mostly contains standards that deserve to be revived plus two originals, is that there is no personnel listing, although each of the musicians' names are mentioned. The music is accessible, heated and creative within the genre of bebop/hard bop. Slow Hot Wind is easily recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
This is the studio follow-up to Dick Conte's previous album "Live @ San Jose Jazz Festival" (DCJ #21)." The pianist and his quartet present fresh takes on standards and a couple of originals. Regional strength in SF Bay Area.

Slow Hot Wind album
$14.24 Pat Metheny's Orchestrion refers to a 19th century hybrid musical instrument of the same name that contained (usually) a wind orchestra, various percussion instruments, and sometimes a piano played by a pinned cylinder or a music roll -- like a player piano. Metheny designed and plays one here thanks to a commissioned group of inventors, advanced solenoid switch technology, ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Slow Hot Wind CD music
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates ...

"Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that discreetly act as the glue holding ...

| | Rose Polenzani Dragersville CD (1998)
Slow Hot Wind songs
$18.95 Rose, a Chicago native currently residing in Santa Barbara CA, has been described as a "cross between Leonard Cohen and Joan of Arc," and justifiably so.Many of her songs have a dark, brooding nature to them - with rich, in-depth lyrics. Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls attests, "No one can touch her.. Rose exists on a level all her own.. botanical love songs, dark histories.. as holy as a mystic, as profane as your perverted fantasies." Rose Polenzani is coming onto the scene in full-force. Dragersville is her 1998 debut CD, and it came the same year as her performances at Lilith Fair in Chicago, Newport Folk Festival, and opening dates for artists such as the Indigo Girls, Vic Chestnutt, and Joan Baez. In August of 1998 Rose independently released her debut album, Dragersville, a self-produced collection of eleven original songs. Since its release, she has been touring almost incessantly, making a stop at the ASCAP Showcase during this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and Chicago's Lilith Fair. The Illinois Entertainer called ...

Slow Hot Wind music CDs
$18.99 FULL OF FARAWAY is one of Zoe's earlier albums recorded in Austin, TX with a bunch of marvellous musicians. It's delightfully fresh, full of travelling ditties and there's even a little piece of Texas twang in there! (As twangy as a Brit can get!) ZOE is a band in a body! She plays jazz, ,jump jive, latin grooves, swing, international folk, funk originals on anything from the piano to the spoons! She's traveled all over the globe picking up worldbeat grooves and stories on the way; jumping box cars, riding on freight boats and has even played music with an elephant orchestra in Thailand. ZOE'S performed with a whole host of incredible players including JULIE WOLF (Ani DiFranco, Bruce Cockburn), GAIL ANN DORSEY (David Bowie), PAUL PIERCY (Dixie Chicks), FREEBO (Bonnie Raitt) and is soon to tour with JUDY COLLINS."Lewis writes music with the style and grace of a Gershwin. Her tunes often have the familiarity of standards even though they are brand new. Her lyrics are decidedly more current and are full of whimsy. As for musical style, forget it, she has none or rather, has many."PROVINCETOWN BANNER, MA"This CD bounces between Jazz, Zydeco and traditional sounds from various lands and American Folk. And yet the switch in styles isn't at all jarring, infact it's a remarkably cohesive CD with an easy going flow. This CD can be listened to passively with the music just wafting by you. But, if you chose to listen more actively you'll find her lyrics are engaging with vivid imagery. It's bouncy and light without being simple. It's that rare CD that can be enjoyed by little children or music snobs." THE BLACKBOARD, ...
