Tales of Creation may not contain as many classics as some of Candlemass' previous efforts, but the band has never sounded better, and the exceptional production job fully highlights the operatic vocals of Messiah Marcolin without sacrificing any of the band's low-end guitar crunch. Unfortunately, the group wastes precious space on short spoken-word interludes, which, although they are meant to tie everything together, actually detract from the album's continuity. Another perplexing blunder is the inclusion of "Into the Unfathomable Tower," a very uncharacteristic, frenzied guitar workout which sounds more like a Yngwie Malmsteen outtake. Still, the band offers enough winners with the title track, "Dark Reflections," and "Tears" to keep things interesting, and the stunning "Under the Oak" is simply one of the best songs of the band's career. While definitely not a first choice for new fans, this album will certainly satisfy serious doomsters. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
Candlemass: Messiah Marcolin (vocals); Mats Bjorkman, Lars Johansson (guitar); Leif Edling (bass guitar); Jan Lindh (drums).

Tales Of Creation album
$7.39 Much like the English punk movement before it, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal invaded hundreds of American garages in the early '80s and launched countless bands across the nation. It is interesting to note, however, that while in major cities with thriving punk rock this phenomenon manifested itself in the form ...

Tales Of Creation CD music
$10.95 The arduous three-year process of reuniting Candlemass' "classic" lineup had all the makings of a psychodrama: one where an innocent wedding-day jam incredibly led to sporadic live performances; then rather noncommittal songwriting sessions that progressed into the recording of actual demos; and after everything fell apart at the last minute due to the usual "irreconcilable differences," a just as unexpected about-face that allowed the album in question to suddenly emerge in 2005! In other words, unlike so many band reunions, which retrospectively seem to quickly transform from impossible to inevitable, this special occasion should not be taken for granted by any fan of the Swedish doom titans -- it was hardly guaranteed. Having clarified this, ...

Tales Of Creation songs
$12.85 Bonus DVD contains footage of the band performing live on a local cable show circa 1982 as well as an exclusive interview.
A huge throwback to the '70s in every sense (looks, sound, etc.), Chicago's Trouble had little hope of fitting into the various mid-'80s heavy metal scenes. Instead the band were busy updating the genre's prehistoric doom teachings for the new decade, beginning with their eponymous debut, later re-baptized Psalm 9. First track, "The Tempter," immediately set the revisionist tone: opening with a plodding, monolithic riff which only grudgingly allowed the song ...
| | Trouble Skull CD (1985) Bonus DVD
Tales Of Creation album
$12.19 Having set back the cause of heavy metal a good 15 years (in the best possible sense) with their fine debut, Psalm 9, one would have expected to witness some kind of evolution or growth from retro-metalheads Trouble, on their ensuing releases. But thankfully for the cause of doom, 1985's The Skull confounded any such expectations and progressed not a single iota beyond its predecessor's imposing, Sabbath-inspired power chords, gritty, analog authenticity, and, unique to Trouble's template, pro-religion lyrical themes. Unfortunately, its songs weren't quite up to the same standards from start to finish, and after a semi-decent start via the lumbering majesty of "Pray for the Dead," The Skull reached something of a premature climax with the surprisingly energetic "Fear No Evil," containing an awesome array of start-stop riffs, stellar ...

| | Kelly Greene I Wish I Was Alive CD (2008)
Tales Of Creation album
$11.39 Kelly Greene® Artist BioWith a voice to rival the depth and range of legends like Pat Benetar, Annie Lennox, and Ann Wilson, Skope Records recording artist Kelly Greene is a musical force to be reckoned with. This Rock Singer-Songwriter/Musician serves up a tall drink of modern rock with a heavy twist of old school bite and lyrics deserving attention. Taking musical cues from influences like Weezer, Third Eye Blind and Van Halen, Greene's second album “I Wish I Was Alive” released on June 3, 2008. Recorded with “no pop” producer Jason Rubal (Dresden Dolls, Heirosonic), “I Wish I Was Alive” is a killer Rock album that drives from beginning to end with raw emotion and no apologies.Striking, and yes, we mean striking, the ivories for the first time at three years old, Kelly Greene displayed obvious talent at a very young age. Years of childhood performances and school choirs led to time on the road out of high school playing and singing for crowds of ten to 5,000+. It wasn’t until after her time on the road that she decided to pick up a guitar and really go for it – to push through the boundaries that had been set for her and be the honest, hard-hitting, voice of Rock n’ Roll today’s music is sorely missing. Many bands claim not to sound like anyone out there, and although you can clearly hear her musical influences, Greene’s voice truly stands out; there really is no particular female voice at the moment that sounds like hers.Having been invited to open for national acts within her first three shows, Greene has already proven that she can play with the big boys and isn’t afraid to be selective when it comes to when and where she plays. “My fans are very loyal and they will travel quite a distance to get to a show, so I want to be sure that it’s a great venue and an amazing show ...
