Personnel: Ernie Andrews (vocals); Ernie Andrews; Phil Wright (piano); Richard Simon (bass instrument); Frank Wilson, Frank Beaty Wilson (drums); Terry Evans (guitar); Houston Person (tenor saxophone). Audio Mixer: Geoff Schroer. Liner Note Author: Ray Osnato. Recording information: Sunburst REcording, Culver City, CA (09/2005). The irrepressible Ernie Andrews continues his late-career renaissance with How About Me. Produced by saxophonist Houston Person, Andrews fronts a quintet with Person, guitarist Terry Evans, pianist and arranger Phil Wright, Richard Simon on bass, and Frank Wilson on drums. The material ranges from all over the place, but most comes from the 1940s and '50s. Andrews is in fine form on cuts like the Eddie Lane and John Jacob Loeb classic "Boulevard of Memories," Leonard Feather's fine jump blues, "She's Got the Blues for Sale," and the Duke Ellington nugget "It Shouldn't Happen to a Dream." The title cut is one of Andrews' finest performances in recent years -- with his version of the Irving Berlin masterpiece "How About Me." This is a solid date form start to finish. ~ Thom Jurek Ernie Andrews How About Me Songs How About Me Review

| | Bud Powell Bouncing With Bud CD (2008)
How About Me
$9.99 w. Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson, Wm. Schioffe 1962
Bud Powell Trio: Bud Powell (piano); Niels-Henning Osted Pedersen (bass); William Schiopffe (drums). Recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark on April 26, 1962. Though the mercurial pianist Bud Powell's performances could be erratic, to say the least, he's heard in top form on this live 1962 performance from Copenhagen. Indulging in seemingly effortless glissandos and breathtaking displays of technical mastery, Powell, accompanied by Oscar Peterson's future bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, performs a high-spirited set that includes the Thelonious Monk classic "Straight, No Chaser" and a sensitive reading of Benny Golson's poignant standard, "I Remember Clifford." What Charlie Parker was to the alto saxophone, Bud Powell was to the piano. Powell was among the first pianists to apply bebop concepts to the keyboard, and was an off-and-on associate of Parker's. By 1962--the year BOUNCING WITH BUD was recorded--Powell's best days were thought by many to be behind him. This session gives the lie to that notion. True, he wasn't the wizard he was in his early years, but on his good days Powell was still a great pianist, and BOUNCING WITH BUD is one of his peak 1960s moments. Bud Powell's health and ability to play brilliant bop piano clearly were both in decline between the mid-'50s to the early '60s. But living in Paris seemed to suit him, and these sessions from Copenhagen, Denmark in 1962 show Powell in relatively good form, four years before his death. This recording has importance for two reasons beyond Powell's ability to perform up to snuff. The rhythm section features Niels-Henning ...
