| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
Patricia Vonne CD music
$15.05 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their concert performances -- without adding American folk or country standards -- and the poignancy of their best studio recordings. Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen were aided on this set by bassist Glenn Worf, guitarist Richard Bennett, and drummer Vince Santoro, as well as backing vocalists such as Matraca Berg (who also contributed a pair of songs to the album), Jessi Alexander, and Jaime ...
| | Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison CD (1968)
Patricia Vonne music CDs
$6.25 This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only in Super Audio CD players.
Recorded live at Folsom Prison, Folsom, California on January 13, 1968. Includes liner notes by Johnny Cash and Steve Earle.
Want to hear part of the reason why Johnny Cash is an icon, a singer respected and influential in country, folk, and rock & roll? THIS is it! In 1968--one of the most tumultuous years in American history since the Depression years--Cash recorded an album live in front of a (literally) captive (but wildly appreciative) audience, in Folsom Prison. With two guitars, bass, drums, and a small vocal group (including Cash's wife June Carter Cash and the Statler Brothers), Cash sings his hits and lesser-known songs ...

| | Dierks Bentley Feel That Fire CD (2009)
Patricia Vonne album
$15.65 Five studio albums into his career, Dierks Bentley has carved a successful niche for himself on the Nashville scene, and FEEL THAT FIRE continues to exploit his strengths. Soulful and real enough to stand out from the cookie-cutter Nashville hordes, Bentley takes cues from the outlaw country generation of Waylon Jennings and Wilie Nelson while remaining catchy and commercial enough to be a regular feature on contemporary country radio. The title track and first single is a particular standout, as is the sultry "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes" ...
| | Band Of Heathens One Foot In The Ether CD (2009) Digipak
Patricia Vonne CD music
$12.95 As you might expect from a group fronted by three singer/songwriters, the material on One Foot in the Ether is uniformly strong. The band's principals -- Colin Brooks, Gordy Quist, and Ed Jurdi -- all share writing and publishing credits, and since all three play several instruments, the album boasts a diversity of sounds and styles. The first thing that strikes you is how many of these tunes sound like gospel music. Given the name of the band, it's a real surprise. "Shine a Light" is a mellow, call-and-response number with churchy organ, stinging slide guitar, and an uplifting lyric. "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a blues with a gospel tinge, although the lyric is strictly secular. An odd, stuttering, New Orleans backbeat supplied by drummer John Chipman ...

| | Doc Watson Then And Now/Two Days In November CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Patricia Vonne songs
$17.79 This two-fer CD gathers a pair of LPs by country duo Doc and Merle Watson, THEN AND NOW and TWO DAYS IN NOVEMBER.
Following the phenomenal success of 1972's Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Doc Watson and his son Merle Watson signed with independent label Poppy Records and released three wonderful albums, Elementary Doctor Watson! (1972), Then and Now (1973), and Two Days in November (1974), all three of which were produced by the legendary Jack Clement. These have been reissued in different combinations several times in the CD era by various labels, usually with a track or two lopped off for mysterious reasons. Sugar Hill issued truncated versions of Then and Now and Two Days in November (both of which won a Grammy in their original incarnations) on a single disc in 1994, and Capitol's Songs from Home (1992) compilation also draws from the Poppy material. Beat Goes On's edition of the two Grammy-winning albums trumps the Sugar Hill version by adding in the missing tracks plus a couple from Elementary Doctor Watson! The result is a delightful disc that features Watson's take on several folk-blues pieces, including "Milkcow Blues," "Match Box Blues," George and Ira Gershwin's "Summertime," Mel Tillis' ...
