The former frontman for the Verve delivers his third solo effort with 2006's KEYS TO THE WORLD. Richard Ashcroft seems to be moving further and further away from the epic drone-rock of his former band with each release. If "Why Not Nothing," the opening track on KEYS, were any clue, Ashcroft's third album might have signaled a trip to Muscle Shoals and an album fully steeped in horn-driven soul of a 1960s mode. Elsewhere, however, Ashcroft's sonorous voice is complemented by swelling strings, synthesizer, piano, and layered guitars, and, despite the groovy opening track, the vibe of the album is consistently downtempo, soulful, and moody, with none of the crunching rock of early Verve releases in sight. That said, Verve fans may want to proceed with caution, but fans of Ashcroft's solo work should give KEYS a listen.
Former singer and chief songwriter in The Verve, one of the most influential and successful bands of the 1990' s, returns with his third solo outing 'Keys To The World'. ..featuring the firts single 'Break The Night With Colour'. Richard marked his new return with a stunning performance of The Verve's ' Bittersweet Symphony' (with Coldplay) at recent Live 8 show. By way of introducing Richard Ashcroft, Chris Martin described The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' as The best song ever written, sung by the best singer in the world. Capitol. 2006. Richard Ashcroft Keys To The World Songs Keys To The World Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Ashcoft sings of companionship...seems he found his smile Keys To The World, to me at least, is Ashcrofts finest solo work since departing The Verve. His voice, recorded very dry, is impeccable. The single, Break the Night With Colour is hauntingly reminiscent of The Verve, and is easily the best single on the album. The title track "Keys To The World" sounds like it could have come right off of a Roger Waters album, and is again one of the best tracks on the album. Ashcroft also seems to be happier, with many of the songs expressing his offers to be a friend, and a shoulder to lean on. He doesn't seem to be so depressed anymore, rather he's found his peace and is willing to lend an ear to a fallen friend. Nice melodic album, good to hear your voice again Mr. Ashcroft. Getting less and less inspired... There are 3 pretty good songs on that album but that's about it! Since "Along with Everybody" (first solo effort, what a great album!!) it seems that Ashcroft has lost the touch. Not a bad rock but so far away from what he can play/composed when he's inspired. Disappointing. Submitted by Fred (Fribourg, Switzerland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not up to par I am a huge fan of Richard Ashcroft, his last CD, Human Conditions, is one of my all time favorites, ripe with emotion and the sound is grand and cosmic. Keys to the World, I hate to say is simply a poor effort. The only tracks that are even worthy of what I would expect from RA are "Words just get in the way", and "Siple song". Man, I was so excited to get this and when it arrived, I was tearing the wrap off it while walking home, but I can't tell you how dissappointed I was after just 10 minutes of listening to it. Sorry! Stunning Mad Richard is back in top form with "Keys to the World." The album begins with a bang and takes you on a journey filled with the power of music, love, and life. Submitted by Shane (Detroit, Michigan, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Keys To The World songs
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon titled "Woman You Need Love," the tune Zep ripped for "Whole Lotta Love." Despite the fact that this set was issued before by Repertoire, the Akarma version is definitive in that it features the original cover artwork in a heavy cardboard gatefold sleeve, and killer ...

Keys To The World album
$14.65 "The singing of Christian hymns in Native languages, represented by the music you will hear on this album, gives meaningful respite to [a] terrible past as well as hope for a future in which religious toleration will prevail…It is virtually impossible to remain unmoved when one hears [these] powerful voices joined in intricate harmonies, giving voice to the community’s shared heritage. Whether or not one understands the words, the spiritual resonance is unmistakable. If there is a deeper meaning in the perseverance of our Native languages, it is nowhere more apparent than in the wonderful music of these singers joining the past with the present".Gerald L. Hill, Esq. (Oneida)Beautiful Beyond is presented in cooperation with the National Museum of the American Indian.
