This collection of rarities features songs from 28 years of the blue-collar Pittsburgh rocker's career, from his days in the mid-1970s leading the Iron City Houserockers to his 1990s incarnation as a Bruce Springsteen protégé. The rough-and-ready feel of these recordings ideally suits Grushecky's rootsy style, and original, sometimes skeletal versions of songs like "Touch the Rain" from 1998's COMING HOME and "Spanish Blood" from 2002's FINGERPRINTS display his considerable songwriting strengths. Outtakes And Demos 1975-2003 album
$6.49 While it might be a stretch to claim that disco in effect killed Chicago, as this effort exemplifies, the dance craze certainly didn't help the band, either. After the moderate success of its previous long-player, Hot Streets (1978), Chicago seemed to have the fortitude to be able to carry on in the wake of the tragic loss of original member Terry Kath (lead guitar/vocals). With the addition of Donnie Dacus (guitar/vocals) and producer Phil Ramone, Chicago scored a pair of strong Top 40 hits with "No Tell Lover" and "Alive Again." By mid-1979, the fickle pop music tides had fully turned toward the beat-intensive drone of disco. Somewhere along the line the rhythm temporarily ...

Outtakes And Demos 1975-2003 CD music
$6.09 Despite containing a few hidden gems, Chicago's 14th long player went primarily unnoticed when first released in the summer of 1980. The concurrently popular music styles of new wave and punk, as well as the last remnants of disco, had all but abandoned the septet's dependably horn-driven pop and dramatic balladry. In retrospect, it seems that the band had not yet recovered from the tragic loss of Terry Kath (guitar) less than two years earlier. Although ...

Outtakes And Demos 1975-2003 album
$12.39 Joe Grushecky writes like a regular guy for a good reason -- he is one. While Grushecky has had a long career in rock & roll, including a brief flirtation with the major labels as frontman for the Iron City Houserockers, these days he earns his living as a schoolteacher and makes music on the side, which is doubtless why when he writes about the lives of working stiffs and ordinary Joes, the songs bear the ring of truth rather than a sense of condescension. A Good Life is Grushecky's tenth album since the breakup of the Houserockers, and it doesn't break much in ...

Outtakes And Demos 1975-2003 album
$10.39 Dr. Thompson has created music that is purely medicinal, in service of relaxation without any mysticism -- there's nothing new agey or easy listening about it. Ordinarily, you don't have to hand-tool music that will put you to sleep; any kind of music will do the job if you aren't into it. What matters is how you feel when you wake up. If your musical selection just lets your mind ...
| | Collection: The Clash/London Calling/Combat Rock CDs (2000)
Outtakes And Demos 1975-2003 CD music
$21.69 THE CLASH (US Version), LONDON CALLING and COMBAT ROCK are also available separately in newly remastered versions.
Additional personnel includes: Baker Glare (whistling); The Irish Horns (brass); Micky Gallagher (organ).
In 2004, the folks at Sony repackaged the Clash's self-titled debut, London Calling, and Combat Rock in a three-disc longbox. In 2005, they decided to save on packaging and reissued the very same set in a slipcase as part of its Collection series. The merits of the records are well known to anyone who has spent any time listening to the band. In characteristic Sony fashion, they released these three together perhaps because they were the most commercially successful titles the band ever recorded. The Clash was first and was released in two versions between the U.S. and U.K., London Calling was the band's third album, while Combat Rock was their fifth. London Calling is a great place to start, though most hardcore fans still swear by their first. Combat Rock has its moment and netted a slew of hits, but it remains far inferior to London Calling. ~ Thom Jurek
The three most popular Clash records are brought together here in a bargain box by Sony. A good buy if one is looking for these discs cheap, but those looking for the remastered versions will have to go get ...
