| | Executive Slacks Fire & Ice CD Executive Slacks Discography of CDs
FIRE AND ICE, the swan song of the short-lived goth/industrial group Executive Slacks, was originally released in 1986. Here the Philadelphia-based band offers up hard-driving tunes in the vein of U.K. post-punks Killing Joke, as best exemplified by the surging title track and the hypnotic "Say It Isn't So."
Special Edition

| | Peter Kater Heart's Desire CD (2001)
Fire & Ice album
$5.99 The veteran new age pianist Peter Kater is a master composer and player equally inspired, it has seemed, by classical music and pop/rock. His best work in the early '90s had a catchy pop edge and was easy to categorize as symphonic instrumental rock at times. These days, he's a little more meditational and expansive, but no less inspiring. His Heart's Desire is a musical collage that centers on the piano and finds him coloring the harmonies with the diverse woodwinds of Paul McCandless. "My Heart's Eyes" is a gentle yet sweeping prayer inflected with the urgency of McCandless' oboe. "Clear Skies" has a little more rhythmic foundation (reminiscent of that early-'90s pop phase) while "Winds of Change" focuses more on emotional ambience before the drums peek in. "Hearts' Desire" blends a series of glissandos with a chamber music effect. Overall, Kater and McCandless simply go where their muse takes them, usually to more artistic than commercially oriented realms. ~ Jonathan Widran

Fire & Ice songs
$15.19 Gayla Drake Paul has long been regarded as one of the finest guitarists and songwriters on Planet Earth, and Eric Douglas is only now beginning to receive the recognition he deserves, but the collaboration between these two virtuosos is powerful and rich. The evolution that Gayla's songwriting has gone through during the last few years has reached maturity in these 10 euphoric songs of love and longing. Drawing inspiration from Buddhism, Gnostic mysticism, and the writings of Rumi and other mystic poets, as well as her deep Celtic and Native American heritages, she weaves tender and ecstatic stories of passion, reverence and desire. Her voice is in rare form - not pristine, but wonderfully mature and more powerful than ever. New is the addition of an electric guitar - a hollow-body jazz box, the inspiration behind many ...
