Watch What Happens
$12.95 Children On The Corner features Miles Davis alumni. Children On The Corner: Sonny Fortune (saxophone, flute); Michael Wolff (keyboards); Barry Finnerty (guitar); Michael Henderson (bass); Ndugu Chancleor (drums); Badal Roy (tablas). Personnel: Barry Finnerty (guitar); Sonny Fortune (flute, saxophone); Michael Wolff (piano, keyboards); Michael Henderson (electric bass); Leon "Ndugu" Chancler (drums); Badal Roy (tabla). Audio Mixer: Ben Frimmer. Liner Note Author: Chris Slawecki. Recording information: Silicon Monk Studios (07/16/2002/07/17/2002); Yoshi's, Oakland, CA (07/16/2002/07/17/2002). Even more come across the time-worn paths of ether and obscurity: Children on the Corner is a collective made up of ex-Miles Davis sidemen from his eclectic years that include Sonny Fortune, Michael Henderson, Badal Roy, Ndugu Chancler, and Barry Finnerty. The band is led by keyboardist and composer Michael Wolff, the only non-Davis personnel. Rebirth was recorded live over two nights at the popular ...
| | John Mclaughlin Thieves And Poets CD (2003)
Watch What Happens
$15.39 Personnel: John McLaughlin (acoustic guitar); I Pommeriggi Musicali Di Milano; The Aighetta Quartet. Principally recorded at Officine Meccaniche Studio, Milan, Italy in June 2002. Includes liner notes by John McLaughlin. Since the late '60s, John McLaughlin's name has been synonymous with electric fusion guitar. But McLaughlin is equally accomplished on the acoustic guitar; he has a long history of excelling on that instrument, which he plays exclusively on Thieves and Poets. This 2003 release, in fact, isn't fusion in the amplified jazz-rock sense but rather acoustic-oriented post-bop with Euro-classical leanings. Thieves and Poets finds McLaughlin joining forces with two of Europe's classical outfits: the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie (with Renato Rivolta serving as conductor) and the much smaller, guitar-oriented Aighetta Quartet. The former appears on the title track, a lavish, three-movement, 26-minute orchestral work that has hints of Spanish flamenco at times. Meanwhile, ...
| | John Coltrane One Up, One Down: Live At The Half Note CDs (2005) Remastered
Watch What Happens
$18.95 Live Recording
Personnel: John Coltrane (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Alan Grant (spoken vocals); McCoy Tyner (piano); Jimmy Garrison (double bass); Elvin Jones (drums). ONE DOWN, ONE UP: LIVE AT THE HALF NOTE, recorded in the last year of the classic quartet's existence, captures John Coltrane, drummer Elvin Jones, pianist McCoy Tyner, and bassist Jimmy Garrison going full blast. Recorded a year after A LOVE SUPREME, Coltrane was already moving on to extended improvisation, stretching out a single composition for 15 or 20 minutes while deconstructing it from every conceivable angle, ...

| | Trio Of Doom CD (2007)
Watch What Happens
$8.99 Personnel: Jaco Pastorius (bass guitar); Tony Williams (drums); John McLaughlin (guitar). Anyone with even a passing interest in classic fusion and progressive jazz will want to own TRIO OF DOOM. Comprising three giants of the genre--guitarist John McLaughlin, drummer Tony Williams, and bassist Jaco Pastorius--Trio of Doom recorded both a studio session and a live set in 1979, and this 10-track disc contains selections from each, including Pastorius's "Continuum," McLaughlin's "Dark Prince," and Williams's "Drum Improvisation." Needless to say the playing is superb, and the energy--complex, knotted, and consistently pushing toward astral heights--is dazzling. Certainly the potential of a recording by this trio featuring guitarist John McLaughlin and drummer Tony Williams (both members of Lifetime with organist Larry Young) along with bassist Jaco Pastorius -- aka the Trio of Doom -- is enormous. This compilation contains a performance of the trio at the Havana Jam in 1979, a U.S. State Department-sponsored cultural tour by a large number of American musicians who played on the same stage as Cuban aces. ...
| | Carla Bley Lost Chords Find Paolo Fresu CD (2007)
Watch What Happens
$13.19 Personnel: Carla Bley (piano); Andy Sheppard (soprano, tenor saxophone); Paolo Fresu (trumpet, flugelhorn); Steve Swallow (bass guitar); Billy Drummond (drums). The curious title of Carla Bley's 2007 release THE LOST CHORDS FIND PAOLO FRESU is meant quite literally, since Bley's quartet the Lost Chords recruited Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu for the sessions. Fresu's clear, lyrical tone perfectly complements Bley's gorgeous compositions and the playing of saxophonist Andy Sheppard, drummer Billy Drummond, ...

$8.85 The Rudy Van Gelder Edition of VOLUME 2 includes an essay by Bob Blumenthal. Personnel: Sonny Rollins (tenor saxophone); J.J. Johnson (trombone); Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Art Blakey (drums). Producer: Alfred Lion. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on April 14, 1957. Includes liner notes by Robert Levin. Digitally remastered by Rudy Van Gelder. This is part of the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Editions series. Personnel: Sonny Rollins (tenor saxophone); J.J. Johnson (trombone); Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk (piano); Art Blakey (drums). Liner Note Author: Robert Levin. Recording information: New York, NY (04/14/1957). Photographer: Francis Wolff. Compared to his Prestige, Riverside, and Contemporary recordings of the 1950s, some of Rollins' appearances on Blue Note seemed anticlimactic, but none should be overlooked. This unusual album mostly has Rollins in an all-star ...
