| | Youssou N'Dour Egypt CD (2004)
Aboriginal Beats songs
$14.99 International pop star Youssou N'Dour explores of the themes and sounds of Senegal's Sufi culture on this striking 2004 release. Markedly different than the artist's other albums, on which African elements combine with Caribbean influence and various American styles (including soul, jazz, and rock), EGYPT moves away from N'Dour's trademark pop and deep into the territory of traditional religious music. Though characterized by an undercurrent of West African rhythms and inflections, the sound here--as the title indicates--draws on North African and Middle Eastern Arab music, and features such regional instruments as the oud, the arghul (a double-reed bamboo flute), tablas, and various Arab Gulf percussion.
There is a distinct classical aura here (the personnel list includes an arranger, a conductor, and a score manager). The Fathy Salama Orchestra, which backs N'Dour throughout, features--in addition to Egyptian flutes and drums--first and bass violins, and the group's complex, elegant interplay gives these recordings a stately, stirring feel. N'Dour's voice, in contrast to its usual role as a high, soaring lead, blends subtly into the musical fabric here. A recording ...

| | Manny Oquendo On The Move! (Muevete!) CD (1996)
Aboriginal Beats CD music
$12.49 The strong and powerful influence of African music is hard to miss on this CD, which illustrates the rich cultural heritage of blacks in Bahia and Northeastern Brazil (a region that has produced many musical greats). Legends like Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, and Machito were on the scene, so aspiring young salseros assumed they had no choice but to give 200 percent. The percussionist and his longtime partner Andy Gonzales bring that unwavering work ethic to On the Move! (Muevete!), an outstanding live date recorded at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco. When a 65-year-old Oquendo and his band Libre tear into Bobby Capo's familiar cha-cha "Piel Canela" and infectious originals like "No Cuentes," "Chaquilla Ideal," "Oquendo Y Libre" (a celebration of New York's salsa scene), and the descarga (Afro-Cuban jam) "Muevete un Poco," it's clear that a genuine master of salsa is very hard at work. Though salsa dominates this set, Oquendo triumphantly switches to Latin jazz for an engaging version of the Lester Young standard "Lester Leaps In." ~ Alex Henderson
Recorded live on May 24, 1995.
Personnel: Manny Oquendo (bongos, timbales); Frankie ...

| | E N F A MALE Da Watchman CD (2009)
Aboriginal Beats music CDs
$11.39 The E.N.F.A.MALE is an hiphop MC who was born and raised around DJ's and music lovers. He started out in his early years of life walking the streets of Federalsburg, MD with his big brothers carrying a radio everywhere they went. As time moved on his brothers taught him how to DJ and spend records. In the 80's he wanted to be like his brothers and others who was rapping, so he would take a radio and listen over and over at the lyrics until he could say them.Around the late 90's E.N.F.A.MALE and a few guys in high school started rapping everday at lunch and one guy name Jazz told him he needed a rap name so Jazz said in a joking manner. "Your name should be Infamale", so in E.N.F.A.MALE took the name home and thought about it and said if I have a name it should mean something so he took the name changed the "I" to and "E" and made it stand for EVERY-NIGGA-FOR-ADVANCIN-the-MALE. With "male" standing for MONORITIES-ALWAYS-LOVE-EACHOTHER. At the end of 98' early 99 E.N.F.A.MALE met producer Blackrose and friend Andre Dickerson who were into hiphop/rap music, and they helped him get things moving and learning to record. In that same year E.N.F.A.MALE gave his life to Christ and started using his lyrics as a tool to help bring positive change to people lives. In 2000-2001 E.N.F.A.MALE met Ron D West a producer singer who helped him with digital recording and internet, and appeared on the WestCal Records Compilation album. In the year 2001-2002 E.N.F.A.MALE had a song called "King Of The Kings" go #24 on the national MP3.com hiphop charts competing with the major label artists. In the same year he completed an album called "Da Watchman", but nevered released it until 2009.Now the E.N.F.A.MALE is part owner of a record company name "Finally Made It Records" with his wife Crystal Lofland. He plan on releasing all his albums which holds about 145 songs at the time and still counting. He is also looking for others to produce and put out once he's finished with his business.Be on the look out for the E.N.F.A.MALE. He can't deliver hardcore lyrics that can touch the toughest of them, or he can deliver a soft message that would touch the very inside of a little old lady. At the time he is working on a new project for the label and doing a home ministry with his wife, and family.
