Hardcore hip-hop quartet the Outlawz have never compromised their sound in the interest of crossover pop success. From the beginning, they've pursued a straight-ahead gangsta style that accurately represented the gritty reality of life on the mean streets. Their second album NOVAKANE is no exception. The forceful, urgent vocal delivery, firm, unrelenting thud of the beats, and detail-oriented, unremittingly grim lyrical outlook are all crucial elements of the Outlawz sound, and are all in full effect here. Though they do occasionally pause to express their regret over the pursuit of the thug life and their longing for a life beyond the violence, these heavy-duty rappers generally immerse themselves head-to-toe in the violent world they represent.
