Personnel: Ahmad Jamal (piano); James Cammack (bass); Herlin Riley (drums); Manola Badrena (percussion). Recorded at Skyline Studios, New York on February 1, 1986. Personnel: Ahmad Jamal (piano); Herlin Riley (drums); Manolo Badrena (percussion). Recording information: Skyline Studios, New York, NY (02/01/1986-02/02/1986). Photographer: Roy Volkman. Few of pianist Ahmad Jamal's many recordings are not worth picking up, and this effort for Atlantic boasts some fresh material and fine playing. Jamal (joined by bassist James Cammack, drummer Herlin Riley, and percussionist Manolo Badrena) performs seven of his little-known originals and the obscure "Yellow Fellow." The close musical communication by the players is, as always, the main reason to acquire this release. ~ Scott Yanow Ahmad Jamal Rossiter Road Songs Rossiter Road Review

| | Bobby Timmons Prestige Trio Sessions CD (2003)
Rossiter Road
$8.89 THE PRESTIGE TRIO SESSIONS contains 2 LPs on 1 CD: LITTLE BAREFOOT SOUL (1964)/CHUN-KING (1964). Personnel: Bobby Timmons (piano); Sam Jones, Keter Betts (bass); Albert "Tootie" Heath, Ray Lucas (drums). Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on June 18, 1964 and August 12, 1964. Audio Remasterer: Kirk Felton. Liner Note Authors: Joel Dorn; Chris Albertson. Recording information: Van Gelder's Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ (06/18/1964-08/12/1964). This CD reissue combines two long-available Prestige LPs by Bobby Timmons, Little Barefoot Soul and Chun-King. The first date was actually the pianist's debut for the label, and it nearly didn't take place at all. A quintet session suddenly turned into a trio with bassist Sam Jones and Ray Lucas, the latter a last minute substitution on drums. Although Timmons' jazz immortality was assured with his earlier hit "Moanin'," most of the originals sound as if they ...
| | Wynton Marsalis Live At The House Of Tribes CD (2005)
Rossiter Road
$13.65 Live at the House of Tribes documents trumpeter Wynton Marsalis performing with his sextet at the intimate community theater space in New York City on December 15, 2002. Apparently an annual ritual of sorts for Marsalis, the performance makes for one of his best live recordings since 1986's stellar Live at Blues Alley. Backed by a slightly altered lineup from his 2005 Blue Note studio debut, The Magic Hour, Marsalis gains first-class support from alto saxophonist Wessel Anderson, pianist Eric Lewis, drummer Joe Farnsworth, bassist Kengo Nakamura, and percussionist Orlando Q. Rodriguez. Special mention must be made of Robert Rucker for his highly energetic tambourine performance on the New Orleans "2nd Line" finale. New Orleans jazz aficionados may recognize this tune as "Joe Avery's Blues" and based on the cheering, clapping, and general rowdiness of the crowd, it probably found the band marching ...
