I Can't Stand The Rain album
$15.98 Number Ones replaces Design of a Decade, released 14 years prior. Excepting the new song "Make Me" (hard neo-disco/funk excellence), each song here was indeed a number one hit on Billboard's various charts, though "Got 'Til It's Gone" sneaks through a side door via the Japanese charts. One number one, oddly, is missing: "So Excited," a perfectly fine, 2006 single which topped the club chart. This set is more thorough with 1986-1996, too, adding Herb Alpert's "Diamonds" -- which would not have been out of place on Control, given Jam & Lewis' production and Janet's precedence over Alpert's trumpet -- as well as "The Best Things in Life Are Free" (with Luther Vandross) -- all the smashes off janet., and "Scream" (with her brother). Say what you want about Janet peaking with Jam & Lewis during the latter half ...

I Can't Stand The Rain songs
$14.38 Lest you believe Little Dragon lack an aesthetic spine, their shift away from low-key left-field hip-hop, plaintive piano ballads, and acoustic jazz--a combination that helped make their debut a cult classic--seems more natural after a couple spins. There's no way around the fact that most of MACHINE DREAMS is icy electro-pop, but it is not as if the truly singular Yukimi Nagano, an enamoring vocalist, has switched to drone mode, forsaking her grounding in R&B. She has kind ...
| | Barry White All-Time Greatest Hits CD (1995)
I Can't Stand The Rain album
$11.99 Barry White's ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS contains the original single versions of his classic solo hits, as well as two songs White performed as the lead vocalist of the Love Unlimited Orchestra. All tracks were previously released on the 20th Century Records label.
All tracks digitally remastered by Gary Mayo (Polygram Studios).
It took quite a while for a definitive Barry White compilation to hit the market, but All-Time Greatest Hits -- part of Mercury's Funk Essentials series -- finally filled the bill in 1995. Boasting a full 20 tracks from White's heyday of 1973-1978, more than half of which made the R&B Top Ten, All-Time Greatest Hits is easily the most generous single-disc White collection on the market. It includes the edited single versions, not the full-length album tracks, which actually makes for a more digestible introduction to White's achievements. Like his forebear Isaac Hayes, White was not just a deep-voiced crooner, but a talented producer and arranger who'd spent years honing his craft behind the scenes in the industry. And like Hayes, White spent a great deal of time setting up moods on his albums, using lush, sweeping orchestrations to build very gradually to climaxes. (Actually, that probably explains a good deal of his effectiveness.) But White was not simply a Hayes disciple; his swirling ...
| | Best Of Sade CD (1994)
I Can't Stand The Rain CD music
$9.59 Digitally remastered by Tom Coyne (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected by changes in taste and fashion--a movement unto herself.
As her most recent single (Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone To Love" from the PHILADELPHIA soundtrack) illustrates, Sade's coy caressing voice speaks more of commitment and trust, of relationships in flux ("Nothing Can Come Between Us") than of the heat of the moment: from the the coy duplicity of "Smooth Operator" to the positive reinforcement of "The Sweetest Taboo" and the sweet ambiguities of "Love Is Stronger Than Pride."
Outside of Sade's mentholated vocals, it is the serene, understated quality of her arrangements that lend THE BEST OF SADE its classic touch of elegance. Delicate washes of percussion and acoustic ...
| | Musique: Act Two CD (1979) (Import) Canada
I Can't Stand The Rain music CDs
$15.25 Musique's corps of vocalists changed completely for the group's second round. Gone were Jocelyn Brown, Christine Wiltshire, Angela Howell, and Gina Tharps -- Mary Seymour, Denise Edwards, and Gina Taylor replaced them. The key returning factor was Patrick Adams, who reprises his role as producer, arranger, and mixer. Along with a stable of studio hands dubbed the PA System Rhythm Section, a double 12" (one song per side) was cut that doesn't quite measure up to Keep on Jumpin'. Nothing caught fire like "In the Bush," and nothing equals the breathless brilliance of "Keep on Jumpin'," but nothing here is weak by any stretch. ...

| | My Goodness, Yes! - The Silver Fox Soul CD (2005)
I Can't Stand The Rain CD music
$14.95 In the 1960s, Lelan Rogers ran one of America's most crazed psychedelic labels, the Texas-based International Artists Records (any outfit that can dig up the 13th Floor Elevators, the Red Krayola, and the Bubble Puppy is obviously in touch with their lysergic nature), but his next venture, the lesser-known Silver Fox Records imprint, found Rogers embracing his love of soul music. Between 1968 and 1970, Silver Fox (which Rogers operated with Shelby Singleton, best known as the man who took over Sun Records from Sam Phillips) released a handful of superb soul and R&B sides, and the cream of their output is collected on this fine compilation. Silver Fox's strongest suit was giving veteran ...
