All the existing recording of Bill Evans and the late Danish bassist Niels Henning Osted Hedersen Playing together plus a thrilling standard medley by Evans and alto saxophonist Lee Konitz recorded live Germany and Copenhagen in October 1965!! Also includes an Intense February 1965 live session in Paris by the Regular Evans trio featuring Chuck Israelsand Larry Bunker. LoneHill Jazz. 2006
This CD compiles material previously issued on several different European releases, all of which likely came from radio broadcasts. Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz is an added guest for a long medley of standards, and the reunion between the two men, who had played together some in the past, works fairly well. The most intriguing track is the improvised "Blues in D," featuring a rotating cast of pianists: Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson, John Lewis, Lennie Tristano, Evans, and Jaki Byard, supported by Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen and Alan Dawson. Four songs come from a February concert with Chuck Israels and Larry Bunker, including a version of "Nardis" joined in progress and a thoughtful "'Round Midnight" that is marred by the noisy audience. The sound quality varies widely in this collection, but it is worth the investment in some form for its historic value to fans of Bill Evans. ~ Ken Dryden

| | Bill Evans Getting Sentimental CD (2003)
Live In Europe
$9.19 Personnel: Bill Evans (piano); Michael Moore (bass); Philly Joe Jones (drums). Recorded live at the Village Vanguard, New York, New York on January 15, 1978. Includes liner notes by David Prince. Native New Yorker Mike Harris is neither a professional musician nor a behind the scenes employee of the music industry; he has earned his living as an optical physicist. But he's someone who Bill Evans' hardcore fans should adore. Harris, himself a truly devoted fan, taped numerous Evans appearances at Manhattan's Village Vanguard in the '60s and '70s and asked owner Max Gordon for permission when he first started taping. Originally, Harris didn't mean for any of the recordings to be released commercially; they were strictly for his private collection. But Harris eventually realized that his gold mine needed to be shared with other Evans devotees, and in 1996 (after he went through the proper legal channels), many of those recordings found their way to Milestone/Fantasy's eight-CD, ...
