Mike Stern and the group are all great players who play excellently together and individually. This is a very nice show. I would recommend to anyone who is aware of good music

 Get Modern - Get Groovy - this is IT!
Very Pure, true performance, well recorded sound and picture. These guys go OFF! A must have for any lover of quality fusion music with lots of spontaneity and rich interplay. Stern is at his peak, Bona is a BONUS! Chambers erupts and Franceshini is a fresh voice on Tenor sax.

 A Brilliant Performance
This is a DVD of the live performance given by Mike Stern (guitar), Richard Bona (5-string bass), Dennis Chambers (drums) and Bob Franceschini (tenor sax) on November 09, 2004 at the New Morning club in Paris. The concert is 79 minutes in duration, of which, one hour is blistering, heart pounding improvisation at its best. Those familiar with the music of Mike Stern know it as gumbo of straight-ahead jazz, a little smooth jazz and, just to kick it up a notch, a good, hearty helping of rock. This band is tight! Even when they play free, they’re tight! The songs, all penned by Mike, serve basically as a platform for improvisation. Listen to each of these artists weave their tale. It will definitely raise the hair on the back of your neck and send shivers down your spine…they are THAT good! The high intensity momentarily subsides for the solemnity of “Still There” from the "Voices" CD. This deeply emotional tune features Richard Bona’s angel-like falsetto and some very, very beautiful playing from the rest of the band. The DVD “special features” section includes a 1990 performance of “After You” and a 1996 performance of “John-Pierre” in which Mike is joined by Bob Berg, Bob Sheppard, Lincoln Goines, Dennis Chambers and Dave Weckl. Also included is an interview with Mike in which he discusses his musical upbringing and guitar technique (some of which he demonstrates). The production quality is excellent. The sound and video are crystal clear. The camera shots are expertly set up. The casual listener may be put off by the length of the songs (no song is under ten minutes) but if you’re a fan of any of the featured artists or enjoy highly developed modern jazz musicianship, you absolutely must get this DVD.
