(2 Customer Reviews)
Yet all the hallmarks of Lerche's work are present: tight songcraft, clever lyrics, memorable melodies. Lerche's clear croon is well-suited to the style, as songs like "(You Knocked Me) Off My Feet" prove, while the less overtly jazz-oriented material is invigorated by the distinctive instrumentation and arrangements. Ever the experimentalist, Lerche turns in jazzy renditions of tunes by Prefab Sprout and Elvis Costello, so that his listeners--though relaxed by the album's smooth swing--are playfully kept on their toes.
Norwegian indie-pop sensation Sondre Lerche moves in a new direction for his 2006 release DUPER SESSIONS. Devoted fans looking for more of the well-crafted chamber pop of TWO WAY MONOLOGUE might be taken aback to know that DUPER SESSIONS is light, swinging, and very jazzy.
Personnel: Sondre Lerche (vocals, guitar); Jorgen Træen (percussion); Faces Down Quartet.
Magnet (p.102) - "Here, he's a crooner, taking jazzy pop to dizzying heights of charm. Lerche's fresh-faced romanticism and a simple -- and occasionally simplistic -- approach to ensemble work comes from these tracks being laid down almost entirely love and unrehearsed." Sondre Lerche Duper Sessions Songs Duper Sessions Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Terrific, what else? Sondre Lerche has an incredible talent for melody and harmony that is unique in the contemporary music world. All of his CD's showcase his compositional skills and voice. Duper Sessions is no exception. Anyone who tries to separate his work into varying degrees of "goodness" is thinking too much.
Just enjoy it, it's great music - how many of today's artists can you say that about? Submitted by steve (California, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Phenomenal... Exquisite album... It took some getting used to, but grew on me quite quickly once I decided to give it a few listens. My favorite album that he's done yet... very unique. Its like what the Rat-Pack wanted so very badly to be, but never could accomplish at all... yet at the same time, its Sondre Lerche all the way. The cover of Elvis Costello's "Human Hands" was the first song to grab me, but now I couldn't really choose a favorite song. If you like Sondre at all, or are in to crooner-type music, or just love well arranged lyrics of the romantic nature (for this, by the way, all of his albums are great), then buy this album. Duper Sessions album
$13.85 Although Scott McCaughey pays his bills as a loyal R.E.M. sideman, the longtime Young Fresh Fellows frontman's Minus 5 project has allowed him to explore his fundamental pop/rock leanings with colleague Peter Buck on albums like 2001's acclaimed Let the War Against Music Begin. Recorded in tandem with that set, I Don't Know Who I Am -- a limited-edition disc reportedly restricted to a pressing of just 2,000 copies -- is far darker and more experimental, as evidenced by the set launcher, "There Is No Music." Meshing a slide guitar with a brooding lo-fi feel, the song's alt-country leanings uneasily shift into the electronic-tinged ...

Duper Sessions album
$10.49 Josh Rouse's seventh album Subtitulo is a warm and relaxed affair, much more so than any of his already quite warm and relaxed previous records. Produced again by Brad Jones, Rouse and a small group (Rouse on acoustic guitar, Jones on bass and pianos, Marc Pisapia on drums and percussion, some pedal steel from Pete Finney, and occasional strings provided by Chris Carmichael) recorded these ten songs in Rouse's new home country of Spain, Puerto de Santa Maria to be exact, and the album that resulted is perfect for dreaming a siesta away. ...

Duper Sessions songs
$18.29 The U.K. based Beat Goes On label continues their series of Roy Buchanan two-fers. This one finds the artist at a distinct professional crossroads. After his ultimately discordant relationship with Polydor came to an end, the label finally showed the good sense to issue Live Stock (1975) -- which was primarily documented at Town Hall in New York City on November 27, 1974. The notable exception being the six-plus minute take of "I'm Evil" -- recorded the following March at the Amazing Grace club in Evanston, IN. Supporting Buchanan's consummate strings during the Town Hall appearance are Billy Price (vocals), John Harrison (bass), Malcolm Lukens (keyboards), and Byrd Foster (drums/vocals). There are several outstanding entries scattered throughout Live Stock. With the focus properly placed on Buchanan's fluid fretwork, the update of Al Green's greasy "I'm a Ram," as well as the deadly accuracy with which he lays line upon line of incendiary guitar during "Further on Up the Road" are nothing short of exemplary examples of his nimble mastery in the context of a live performance. A Street Called Straight (1976) marked the start of a three-album deal for Buchanan on Atlantic Records ...
