Block Tested, Hood Approved album
$13.15 Enter the Jacka. The death of 2Pac in the mid 90's ripped the heart out of West Coast Hip Hop. At the same time a young street poet named the Jacka was honing his skills in the Bay Area Rap game. Always open minded, he was influenced by b-boys and thugs, pimps and Imams. The Jacka has since developed into an established, well-rounded, well-versed emcee in the right place to bring the West Coast some serious attention. The Jacka's music is a reflection of his life. He witnessed the birth of the dope game and the drug war that followed, as the battle was waged in his community, on his block, and in his house. Memories of departed loved ones haunt his mind and soul. His release is to share his experiences through his music. Reality hurts. Rap is the Jacka's medicine. That and some purple. Jacka's success proves his mettle as an emcee. He has been featured on over 50 albums over the past six years. His contributions to the Mob Figaz self-entitled album resulted in over 100,000 units sold. His tour with Yukmouth (of the Luniz), C-Bo, the Mob Figaz, and Tech 9ne exposed him to nationwide notoriety. His first solo release (featuring Too $hort, Cormega, Christion, and Yukmouth) in ...

It's an interesting idea, teaming up Norwegian singer Rita Eriksen with Irish legend Dolores Keane. However, the real meeting here seems to be of the musicians, as the vocalists only come together on the atmospheric final track, "The Great Northern Ocean." Elsewhere they take turns, illustrating connections between the music of the countries. Both are modal, with drones either used or implied, and the songs here tend to stay in the minor keys that suit both Keane and Eriksen. In reality, it's Eriksen who probably comes off better here, with more imaginative arrangements for her material; when the band puts a Celtic middle section ...

As is the bar (or bat) mitzvah in the Jewish faith, so is the shedding of the Lil' in hip-hop culture, and so it is Lil' Bow Wow's time to ascend to manhood. The boy born Shad Moss in 1987 had a relatively good run of it in childhood, flowing flawlessly on stage with Snoop Dogg at age 6 (hence the name), and garnering two platinum records, numerous top 40 hits, and number one rap singles like "Bounce With Me." However, at 16, he now simply goes by Bow Wow and with ...

| | Todd Norcross CD (2007)
Block Tested, Hood Approved music CDs
$8.39 Reviews of Todd Norcross: "In an era of ever declining song craftsmanship and one hit wonders whose flavor of the day sounds like 10 other of their compatriots, Todd Norcross continues to deliver his unique pop sound with the release of his latest CD. Newcomers to Todd’s music will be struck instantly upon the first few notes of the opening track “Guitars”. No, this is not your typical run-of-the-mill guitar player. Intertwined and beautifully intricate, this track showcases Todd’s prowess, musicality, and style. From there, the album cascades into kaleidoscope of thick vocal harmonies, catchy hooks, eloquent finger-style and rock guitars – all signature production qualities of T.N. recordings. There are many sonic journeys here not to be missed. As Todd writes, engineers, produces, and plays all instruments on all tracks, what can you say but “Wow”. This artist wears many hats and all of them fit to perfection. If you like what you hear now, you will not be disappointed either in Todd’s previous works and I encourage you to take a moment to hear them as well. A renaissance man in the digital age, Todd Norcross is surely making his mark on the music world that will last for many years to come." Christopher Zerbe - Music Producer/Recording Artist "If Norcross doesn't hit at least some of your pleasure centers, well, forget your ears-- your nerve endings might actually be dead. His wall of sound floods us with killer hooks and old school harmonies destined for summer beach radio. This is simplicity at its best, combining craft with lyrical real life stories. This is a wonderful piece of work that will stand the test of time." - Metacritic Music "I have been listening to Mr. Norcross' CD's for years now. I own seven of them. This is by far his best work yet." - Stephen Collins "This is hands down Todd Norcross' best album to date. Highly recommended.""The ...
