CD Premičres Of Their Rarest 78 RPM Recordings, 1927-1940 CD

 Rather Shrill Transfers
I own many of the original 78 pressings of these sessions. Mark Obert-Thorn did a OK job with the restoration. However, his filtration eliminates some of the mid range dynamics of the 78's, and makes the overall impact rather shrill. He does manage to eliminate the groove noise (the bain of some 78 collector's existance), but in so doing eliminates some of the frequencies that serious sound archivists recognize as the original rich sound quality that many of the original recordings possess.

 some the best Stokowski
This is a fabulous set. No natter that the sound is sometimes a little hoarse (the recordings being in the neighborhood of 60-70 years old), this is Stokowski from his glory years in Philadelphia, and reissues 78RPM sets tht for the most part are not available elsewhere.
